Fans of foreign language cinema may fondly recall catching the Amazon Prime Video original movie, Culpa Mía back in 2023. The film, which served as the directorial feature-length debut of filmmaker Domingo González, stands as the first installment in the Culpables trilogy originally penned by Mercedes Ron. The second title, Culpa Tuya (AKA Your Fault) arrived on the streamer today (Dec. 27), picking up right where the first film left off. Since it’s been over a year and a half since Culpa Mía originally released, you’d be forgiven if you’re feeling a little rusty on the finer details of the romantic drama.

As stated, Culpa Mía is a romantic drama following a teenage girl named Noah. After her mother marries a wealthy man, Noah begrudgingly leaves her friends and family behind to move into his stately mansion. There, she meets her new stepbrother Nick, who immediately rubs her the wrong way with his arrogant attitude and old-money mentality. Over her first week in the new residence, Noah learns a lot about Nick, including his propensity for high-adrenaline sports, his goal of becoming a lawyer and a secret smoking habit that he hides from his father. One night, after a disastrous dinner of nonstop bickering between the step-siblings, Nick excuses himself early to go to work. When Noah explains that she too has plans that night, their parents ask Nick to drive Noah, hoping that the pair will bond a bit on the road.
Much to the surprise of nobody, this plan fails spectacularly, and the step-siblings get into a heated argument during the ride. Things get so rough between them that Nick eventually pulls over and drops Noah on the side of the road. Noah is obviously outraged, but she isn’t stranded for long, as Nick’s friend Mario comes to pick her up just a few minutes later. Mario explains that he and Nick are supposed to meet at a party, revealing that Nick was lying about his work to save face with his parents. Mario brings Noah to the party, where she quickly bonds with Nick’s other friends including Jenna, Anna and Lion. Noah has such a nice time talking with all these new people that she fails to realize someone is spiking her drink. Before she passes out, Nick realizes what’s going on, and steps in to save her.
Nick and Noah Grow Closer
After the party, Noah becomes quite grateful to Nick for having her back. This, combined with Noah’s induction into Nick’s friend group, forces the duo to begin working as a team. Nick reveals that he frequently participates in illegal street races for money, which Noah finds extremely fascinating. Shortly thereafter, Noah and Jenna attend a local racing event, where Lion and Nick compete for 5-figure sums. After Lion wins his race, Nick prepares to take to the open road but Noah becomes incensed when she sees a photo of her former best friend kissing her ex-boyfriend. To prevent her from making a scene, Nick makes her wait in his car away from the crowd. He also agrees to kiss her on camera to get back at her ex.
In a bizarre comedy of errors, Noah accidentally kicks Nick’s car into gear, forcing her to race on Nick’s behalf. To the surprise of the entire crowd, Noah manages to defeat her seasoned opponent with ease, even after he attempts to cheat to make up more time. Before Noah and her friends can celebrate, however, her opponent raises a stink with the officiators of the race, by arguing that she wasn’t supposed to be behind the wheel to begin with. Nick steps in and defends her, but he escalates the discussion into an all-out brawl. Noah escapes from the mayhem with Jenna and Lion and passionately kisses Nick when he eventually makes it back home.
Their Romance Is Threatened by Outside Forces
When Noah’s mother catches wind of her feelings for Nick, she attempts to put a stop to their romantic connection. As this is going on, Noah also receives several threatening notes from a mysterious man. At first, she thinks they’re being sent by her ex-boyfriend, who she believes to have fallen into a jealous rage after seeing the infamous kiss. Ultimately, it turns out that the letters are being sent from Noah’s estranged father, Jonás, and are intended for Noah’s mother. As we learn in the final act of Culpa Mía, Jonás was a street racer in his heyday, before he and Noah’s mother divorced. Jonás has spent the last several years in prison, growing resentful of his family and plotting his revenge.
This explains why Noah happens to know so much about racing, and shows why she is so distraught at the idea of Nick getting in too deep with the wrong crowd. She has spent the last few years telling her friends that her father had died, so she wouldn’t have to face the reality of her fractured relationship with him. After revealing all of her trauma about her father to Nick, Noah has sex with him for the first time and confesses that she wants to be with him even though their parents disapprove. Just when things seem to be looking up for the couple, however, Noah is kidnapped by one of her father’s criminal associates and held for ransom on her father’s orders.
How Does ‘Culpa Mía’ End?
As Nick and Noah’s parents scramble to cover the ransom of one million euros in cash, Nick tries tracking Noah’s location himself. Eventually, Nick, Noah and the police all become involved in a high-speed pursuit, which ends with the police killing Jonás in a harrowing shootout. Noah immediately runs to Nick for comfort after she is released and thanks him for helping to rescue her. In the end, Nick and Noah make their relationship public, not caring who knows about it. While this goes over well with their friend group, it draws negative attention from some of the wealthy associates of Nick’s father.
As Culpa Mía cuts to the end credits, the film establishes one of the key elements to the sequel, by showcasing the disdain that Nick and Noah’s parents have for their budding relationship. Obviously we won’t spoil anything about Culpa Tuya here, but the couple will surely face a series of bold new challenges in the Amazon original sequel.
