In the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s, many blockbuster movies were practically synonymous with the music featured in them or on their star-packed soundtracks. For some films, music was woven into their plots, making for a natural fit, such as the dance floor odes Saturday Night Fever and Footloose.
In other cases, musical superstars segued to on-screen starring roles — and did double duty by supplying memorable songs, such as Prince with Purple Rain and Whitney Houston with The Bodyguard and Waiting To Exhale.
Meanwhile, Dirty Dancing became a vehicle for star Patrick Swayze to make his chart debut as a recording artist. Other soundtracks, such as two entries in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, largely became collections of smash songs, regardless of their cinematic ties.
Not only did soundtrack songs enhance moviegoers’ experiences, but many became big hits on the Billboard Hot 100, with multiple soundtracks generating three or more top 10s.
By the 2000s, the flow of soundtracks packed with hits had stalled. A Billboard story in 2004 outlined various reasons for their decline, from oversaturation to filmmakers attempting to make songs work in storylines and rising artist fees.
Now, after a drought of 28 years, a soundtrack has generated three Hot 100 top 10s once again: Netflix’s animated KPop Demon Hunters. The set slays with HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” which hit No. 1 on the Aug. 16 chart, and Saja Boys’ “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop.”
The set also joins only Saturday Night Fever and Waiting To Exhale in having boasted three Hot 100 top 10s simultaneously.
“It’s so thrilling that people are hearing the songs in two ways,” KPop Demon Hunters executive music producer Ian Eisendrath recently told Billboard. “Some are loving the film, and the film is making the songs hits … and then some people are just encountering the songs, and the songs are making the film hit.”
Popcorn and pop hits: Here’s a look at soundtracks that have spun off three or more Hot 100 top 10s.
(Small print, like the credits at the end of a movie: Only soundtracks with three or more Hot 100 top 10s released from them as singles are included below. So, no Help! by the Beatles, as the title track and “Ticket To Ride” were released from the 1965 album’s U.S. version but third No. 1 “Yesterday” was not on its American tracklist. Plus, 1985’s Miami Vice TV soundtrack houses three top 10s, but Tina Turner’s “Better Be Good to Me” was released as a single from her album Private Dancer and became a hit a year earlier. Sabrina Carpenter‘s dogs may be famous enough now to grace the cover of Dogue, but first and foremost, they’ll always be woman’s best friend.
On Monday (Aug. 18), the pop star and Vogue jointly announced that Carpenter’s two pups, Goodwin and Louie, are cover stars for the publication’s ongoing dog-focused series. “My dogs’ first dogue cover,” the performer wrote, sharing the issue on her Instagram Story.
On the Dogue cover, the two canines pose with their tongues out while riding a white miniature Mercedes-Benz, modeling kerchiefs specially ordered for the occasion by Carpenter’s mom. “They can’t go on walks without getting stopped anymore … egos have substantially grown,” the Grammy winner also quipped. “Wish me luck.”
Goodwin and Louie aren’t the only celebrity fur babies who are part of Dogue‘s latest cover series. ROSÉ of BLACKPINK’s terrier Hank is also featured this issue, as are Maluma’s Dobermans, Buda and Karma, and Siberian huskies Bonnie and Clyde.

In an interview with Vogue, Carpenter shared some of her favorite things about her pups. At 14-years-old, Goodwin — named after one of the singer-actress’ first gigs, a role on quickly scrapped series The Goodwin Games — has been with the musician since she first kicked off her career starring on Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World in 2014.
One-year-old Louie is newer to the Carpenter family, but he already has a nickname for when he misbehaves. “When he’s being bad, I call him Lucifer, but most of the time I just call him LouLou,” Carpenter told Vogue.
“This sounds cliché, but their best quality — both of them — is just how genuinely loving and adoring they are,” she added of her pups. “Goodwin is really empathetic. He just knows when you’re sick and not feeling well. His eyes are humanlike. He’s got a lot of emotion; he has a lot of stories. Louie’s most humanlike quality would probably be his ears. They’re so attuned. He’s such a good listener.”
The musician’s collaboration with Vogue comes at a fitting time, considering the dog-themed aesthetics of her fast-approaching new album, Man’s Best Friend. Arriving Aug. 28, the LP’s cover features Carpenter channeling a four-legged sidekick as she poses on all fours, held in place by a man grabbing her by the hair.
Carpenter also unveiled each of the song titles on the album by having her fans pose with an adorable pup and a director’s chair embroidered with the track names.

The 2025 Billboard Fan Army Face-Off has concluded – and we have a winner.
After five weeks and millions of votes, it’s official: A’TIN has secured another victory for SB19. For the third consecutive year, the fan army for the Filipino boy band have established themselves as the strongest in the game. Huge congrats to A’TIN and SB19.
When all was said and done, SB19 captured 60.1% of the votes in the Finals round, while Selena Gomez netted 39.9%. (Even so, coming in second means that Selena’s fan army, the Selenators, catapulted her above a whopping 62 other artists.)
With this victory, SB19’s A’TIN has tied T-ara’s Queens for the all-time Fan Army Face-Off victory record, winning three times (all consecutively); T-ara previously won Billboard‘s Fan Army Face-Off from 2015-2017.

An all-star group of country singers, actors and athletes came together on Sunday night (Aug. 17) in Austin, Texas for the Band Together Texas benefit concert for flood relief. According to organizers, the show headlined by Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum at the Moody Center raised more than $8.5 million for organizations helping Texans recover from last month’s devastating Central Texas flooding.
The three-hour show honoring the 137 lives lost in the floods and celebrating the first responders who rushed in to aid opened with Lambert and McCollum dueting on the George Strait classic “True,” followed by Lambert singing her own “Bluebird” and “The House That Built Me.”

”The devastating floods that took so many lives, businesses and homes last month broke a lot of hearts. As that day gets further away into the distance of our rearview mirror, it’s only natural that our concern and attention recede just like those flood waters — but we must remember, for the families who suffered, they are just beginning the lengthy journey to rebuild their lives,” said Uvalde, Texas native actor Matthew McConaughey to open the evening, according to a transcript of his comments provided by organizers.
“Tonight is about restoration… we are here to revive,” he added. “Because even in the hardest times, we have to believe in the power of joy. So while we honor the heavy truths that brought us here, we will also celebrate the light that must continue to shine.” After the Strait song, Lambert thanked the fans who showed up to raise money for The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation.
“Thank you Austin, Texas for showing up tonight. Thank you, everybody, for tuning in and showing up for us. We are banding together as Texans tonight,” Lambert said. “It’s going to be a magical night of music, and for an amazing cause. My buddy Parker and I, we called each other right away and we asked, ‘What can we do? We can sing, so let’s go sing.’ And that’s what we’re doing tonight!”
Lambert’s friend, Red Dirt singer Wade Bowen, then paid homage to the victims of the floods, singing an acoustic version of “A Beautiful World” over video and photos of flood victims. McCollum was up next with runs through “Solid Gold Country” and “Handle On You,” telling the audience, “I’d like to give a shout out to Miranda Lambert, she’s the whole reason all of this is going on. She texted me right away and asked, ‘What can we do?’ I said, ‘I’ll do anything I could ever possibly do to help these people.’ So, good on all of y’all for being here on a Sunday night. I’ve never been more proud to be born and raised in the great state of Texas than I am tonight.”
The 29-song set list included a pair of songs from Houston native Lyle Lovett (“Don’t Cry a Tear,” “South Texas Girl”), two from Lukas Nelson and Pat Green (“Waltz Across Texas,” “Just Outside of Austin”), as well as collaborations between Lambert, Jon Randall and Jack Ingram, Randy Rogers and Brady Black, a pair from Ryan Bingham (“Hallelujah,” “Nobody Knows My Trouble”), and Jason Aldean performing “She’s Country” and “Amarillo Sky” with Lambert.
Aldean had performed at the Moody Center the night before and hung around as a surprise guest for Sunday’s benefit, donating his stage and production crew to the event. “Jason was here last night, as you already know, but he left all of his stuff for us to use, and stayed an extra day to sing a song for us, so you’re an honorary Texan tonight, friend,” Lambert said of the Georgia native.
Ronnie Dunn performed “Neon Moon” and “Believe” (with the Levites), and Cody Johnson helped close things out with “Dirt Cheap,” “Til You Can’t” and “How Great Thou Art” before a group singalong to the Willie Nelson classic “On the Road Again.”
Fort Worth-born Kelly Clarkson was slated to perform at the event, but pulled out just days before due to “personal circumstances” after earlier postponing the remainder of her Las Vegas Studio Session residency shows in August citing the ill health of her ex-husband music manager Brandon Blackstock; Blackstock died of melanoma at age 48 on Aug. 7.
The show also featured appearances from Houston-bred actor Dennis Quaid, former UT Longhorns head coach Mack Brown and players Emmanuel Acho, Colt McCoy and Vince Young, baseball legend and Houstonian Roger Clemens, TV host and Dallas native Chris Harrison and Austin-based fashion designer Kendra Scott. Acho also brought out Ainslie Bashara, 19, a counselor from the Christian summer camp Camp Mystic — where at least 27 campers and staff members were swept away by Guadalupe River floodwaters — to celebrate her heroic actions that saved 16 lives.

Carin León and Alejandro Fernández turn pain into power on “Me Está Doliendo,” as the heartbreaking ballad crowns Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart (dated Aug. 23). (The title of the song translates to “It’s Hurting Me” in English.)

“Me Está Doliendo” is part of the extended edition of Leon’s album Palabra de To’s, originally released with 16 tracks via Socios/Island Records. The set, produced by Antonio Zepeda, Alberto Medina, and León, and recorded in his hometown of Hermosillo, earned León a third straight top 10 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart (No. 10 debut and peak, December 2024). The special 20-track edition, which includes the collaboration with Fernández, was released in May of this year.
“Me Está Doliendo” reaches the apex on Regional Mexican Airplay fueled by a 24% growth in audience impressions, to 7.4 million, earned in the United States on the tracking week ending Aug. 14, according to Luminate.
As the heartbreak song hits No. 1, both León and Fernández add a new No. 1 on radio ranking. León secures his ninth chart-topper, while Fernández banks his 14th and eighth consecutive.
“For someone who has come from humble beginnings and is on a journey to achieve their goals, collaborating with a legend like Alejandro and knowing that the audience connects with our work is incredibly fulfilling,” says León. “Additionally, it’s a privilege to count on the friendship of such a great man and iconic figure. There’s so much more to achieve, and I’ve learned a lot from this experience.”
Beyond the coronation of “Me Está Doliendo” on Regional Mexican Airplay, the song improves 7-2 on the overall Latin Airplay chart with the Greatest Gainer honors, awarded to the song the with largest audience growth. There, Fernández achieves his 31st top 10, breaking a tie from Calibre 50 for the most among regional Mexican acts.

CBS and Dick Clark Productions (DCP) have announced a new five-year deal to broadcast the American Music Awards (AMAs) on CBS and stream the show live on Paramount+. The new agreement kicks off with the May 2026 broadcast, which will air live from Las Vegas over Memorial Day weekend, the same weekend and host city as this year’s show.
This deal will keep the AMAs on CBS through 2030. The Grammy Awards, which have aired on CBS since 1973, will conclude their run on that network with the upcoming show on Feb. 1, 2026. Last October, the Grammys announced a move to Disney outlets beginning in 2027. ABC, Hulu and Disney+ will simulcast the show under a 10-year deal that runs through 2036.
(The Grammys and the AMAs will have essentially switched networks. The AMAs, which originated as a fan-focused alternative to the Grammys, aired on ABC from 1974 to 2022.)

The 2025 AMAs reached more than 10 million unique viewers across its CBS premiere (Monday, May 26) and encores on MTV (May 27), CMT (May 28) and BET (May 29). The CBS broadcast marked the show’s largest audience since 2019 with a 38% increase over its last live airing in 2022 on ABC.
Airing for the first time on Memorial Day, the 2025 AMAs paid special tribute to U.S. troops and veterans from the new luxury resort Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Jennifer Lopez returned as host for the first time in 10 years and opened the show with a medley of nearly two dozen of the year’s biggest hits.
Other performers on the show included Alex Warren, Becky G and Manuel Turizo, Benson Boone, Blake Shelton, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson, Reneé Rapp, ICON Award recipient Janet Jackson; and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Rod Stewart. The year’s top winner was Billie Eilish.
The American Music Awards is the world’s largest fan-voted awards show. Winners are determined entirely by fan voting. “Non-stop,” Coupe insists to Billboard of the duo’s creative process for PARADISE. “We were at his house, locked in the basement. I was sleeping in that motherf—ker every day, on the floor.”
Less than a year after 2024’s Sli’merre 2, PARADISE arrived on Aug. 8, a crowded hip-hop release day, filled with 14 tracks and features from Memphis titan Project Pat, 21 Savage, Latto and Babydrill, while also enlisting Kid Hazel on the production side.

“PARADISE means a lot for me, the good and the bad,” Nudy says. “It takes a lot to get to PARADISE — blood, sweat and tears. PARADISE gives you the Nudy world type s—t. My mindset, my people and what I represent.”
It’s a buffet of what fans have come to love from Nudy, whose consistency has become a calling card in his repertoire. Led by vivacious, sleek trap production, Nudy leans into his lothario persona while rhapsodizing about his sexual escapades.
His honeyed flows quickly turn to menacing street tales, narrating his cutthroat rise in Zone 6. He gets from point A to B concisely, cutting the fat off his projects in an era where many of his peers are excessively bloating their projects.
PARADISE began to take shape with the effort’s second single, “Iced Tea,” which flips a ‘70s Italian soundtrack cut into horror trap.
Coupe took a shot in the dark when reaching out to Project Pat, thinking there was no chance he’d say yes, but the Memphis rap pioneer immediately felt compelled to breathe life into the polished track with a catchy chorus. “‘I gotta hop on this right now,’ Coupe recalls Pat telling him after playing an early version of “Iced Tea” for the Three 6 Mafia co-founder.
It was Coupe who served as the bridge for Nudy to Latto, who connected for “What’s Happenin.” A skittering beat that he made during the Gumbo era, but put to the side, knowing there would be a proper time and fit in the future.
“[Latto] texted me, ‘I love this song,’” he says while knowing Big Mama’s a big fan of Nudy, who lifts the track while also sending shots at Donald Trump with her braggadocio assist.
There were brainchilds of Nudy’s as well, which he hid from Coupe like “Pull Up,” a swaggy reinterpretation of Rich Boy’s 2006 top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Throw Some D’s.” “That’s my s—t right now. That’s one of them ones Coupe didn’t know about,” Nudy says with a beguiling smirk. “It was a secret.”
The 32-year-old believes this is a project for every type of Nudy fan he’s acquired over the years. “I feel like it’s for everybody type s—t. They could kinda relate to it. Sometimes I make s—t just for myself, sometimes I make s—t for my fans and sometimes I make s—t for everybody,” he adds. “I like to do me. If I can’t do me, then I can’t do it at all.”
Coupe agrees that when looking back, PARADISE will be a project that best encompasses Nudy’s artistry. “It’s a lifestyle. That’s where he comes from,” the producer claims. “It captures everything, the whole essence of who he is.”
While Nudy tends to be reclusive in an oversaturated Atlanta rapper market, he knows there’s still work to be done. “Staying out the way as much as I can, but still be in the way,” he says of the future. “Gotta stay sucker-free.”
