Everything To Know About Joe Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis

Former President Joe Biden released a statement on Sunday revealing that he had recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. While Biden’s announcement noted the aggressive nature of his cancer, prostate cancer is generally amenable to treatment.

As the country waits to hear what happens next for the former president, the general reaction to his news has been mostly gracious.

Biden’s health announcement and what could happen next

A statement released from Biden’s personal office on Sunday announced, “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.” Noting that it was a “more aggressive form” of cancer, the statement mentioned, “the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”

ABC News reported that this isn’t the first time that Biden has dealt with cancer. Prior to taking office as president, Biden had Mohs surgery to remove non-melanoma skin cancers, and in 2023, he had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest.

The National Institutes of Health estimates that over 300,000 people will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, making it the most common form of cancer among men in the United States. Prostate cancer tends to be a slow-developing and treatable form of cancer, with 98% of people surviving at least five years after diagnosis. Biden’s cancer received a Gleason score of 9 out of a possible 10; this is a measure of the likelihood of the cancer spreading, and that likelihood has been judged as high for Biden. Given the type of cancer Biden has and its spread to his bone, likely treatment could include hormone therapy, but surgery is unlikely.

Reactions to Biden’s news

The initial reactions to Biden’s announcement have mostly been kind and sympathetic. Former Vice President Kamala Harris offered well-wishes on behalf of herself and her husband, Doug Emhoff, adding, “Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership.”

“Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace,” former President Barack Obama said on behalf of himself and his wife, Michelle, referencing the investments that Biden spearheaded for cancer research following the death of his son Beau from a form of brain cancer.

However, some conservatives have struck a more negative tone. Most notably, Donald Trump Jr. followed up a retweet of well-wishes with a conspiracy-laden tweet, pinned to his profile as of Monday morning, saying, “What I want to know is how did Dr. Jill Biden miss stage five metastatic cancer or is this yet another coverup???” This response both misrepresents Jill Biden’s credentials, as she holds a doctorate in education, and perpetuates criticism of the Biden White House for allegedly downplaying cognitive and physical health concerns about Biden during his presidency.

So far, President Donald Trump has been measured and gracious in his response, with the White House’s official account retweeting his tweet mentioning that he and first lady Melania Trump “extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

There is a lot of uncertainty about what Biden’s health crisis will mean for his future, and the limited information available presently gives both cause for concern and reasons for hope. For now, though, Biden has significant support behind him as he deals with this latest challenge.

Rapper Werenoi, France’s Biggest-Selling Music Artist in Recent Years, Dies at 31

Werenoi, the rapper who became France’s biggest-selling music artist in recent years, has died at age 31, his record label and producer said.
The artist, whose real name was Jérémy Bana Owona, was the No. 1 album seller in France in 2023 and 2024 according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) ranking, which includes in-store and e-commerce sales as well as plays on streaming services.

“It’s with immense sadness that we’ve learned of Werenoi’s passing,” his record company Believe said on Instagram. “All our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, his team and everyone who knew him.”

“Rest in peace my brother, I love you,” his producer Babs posted on X.

French media reports Werenoi died early Saturday (May 17) in a Paris hospital. The cause of his death has not been made public.

Werenoi first became known to the French public in 2021 when he posted his song “Guadalajara” on YouTube and it was viewed hundreds of thousand times.

He released three albums, Carré in 2023, Pyramide in 2024 and Diamant Noir in 2025, making him one of the biggest names in French rap.

Several French rappers posted tributes on social media.

French-Malian pop star Aya Nakamura, who featured on Werenoi’s second album, wrote: “Rest in peace my dude. A news that saddens me and courage to the loved ones especially.”

“He made a difference for the quality of his songs, his melodies and his punchlines,” singer Pascal Obispo, who had accompanied Werenoi on the piano at a 2023 Paris concert, told French newspaper Le Parisien.

Caleb Moore Premieres ‘Comeback Kid’ Music Video at Intimate NYC Release Party

Caleb Moore never thought he’d release “Comeback Kid.” But in a warmly-lit townhouse above a clothing store in Manhattan Friday (May 16), a crowd cheered and whistled so loudly for the song’s music video that applause for that night’s historic Knicks victory, hours later, paled in comparison.
The “Comeback Kid” video release party on the second floor of Lingua Franca felt like summertime’s grand entrance, complete with chilled wine and beers, smoke breaks on the balcony, live music and a movie projector for the main event. A crowd of about 50 close friends, family and industry colleagues — including actor Billy Crudup, designer Cynthia Rowley and comedian Dan Toomey — dotted sofas and stood or sat cross-legged around Moore, son of actress Julianne Moore and director Bart Freundlich, who seems to move with his own gravitational pull.

With his guitar on his knee, the 27-year-old alternative R&B artist — who recently released his debut EP, Doing Better, and opened for Barry Can’t Swim at the Surf Lodge — delivered a raw, acoustic performance to kick off the night.

Moore started with “Paranoia,” his first release of 2025, followed by his March single “Bad Guy,” a harmonious collaboration with NYC indie-pop artist India Thieriot, who joined Moore at the mic to perform it together for the first time. Commanding the audience with a gleaming smile, Moore riffed and joked between songs, injecting his set with lightheartedness, laughter and gratitude. The crowd sang along to “Sunshine,” a fan-favorite at Moore’s local shows, and quieted to absorb “Burn It Down,” an unreleased single.

Finally, before screening the “Comeback Kid” music video, Moore played it live for the first time. The song is a reflective ballad that Moore says comes from the realization that he used to hold a “‘keep your chin up’ attitude almost to a fault.” Initially, he thought the song lacked broad appeal.

“The one you don’t think anyone will want to listen to ends up being the one they like the best,” Moore mused before settling into the song’s meditative melody. Moore wrote, produced, mixed and mastered “Comeback Kid,” which he says is his most stripped down song yet, featuring only vocals, guitar and bass.

Its video mirrors that vulnerability. Filmed on 35mm in one continuous take, the nearly five-minute shot follows Moore through the bustle of Lower Manhattan in the early morning light as he sings “Comeback Kid” to himself with mounting vigor. Between budget constraints and the rising sun, the crew — directed by NYC filmmaker Giles Perkins — only had two tries to get the shot right. Their first take became the final cut. Once the credits rolled, the room erupted.

With his music video officially out in the world, Moore, a native New Yorker, promptly replaced it on the projector with the Knicks game and assured everyone that pizza was en route. Moore grew up attending home games with his family — even during the Knicks’ especially painful losing years — so not even his own show was going to stop him from catching the game. The crowd stuck around, too, and joy for Moore melded with joy for the city as the Knicks clinched victory, making it into the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 1999. What a night for a comeback.

Social Security Retirement Age Changes For 2025: Here’s What To Know

The full retirement age to collect full Social Security benefits changed in 2025. Starting this year, U.S. citizens born in 1960 will have to retire at 67 years old instead of 65 in order to receive 100% of benefits.

The full retirement age, also referred to as FRA, was increased due to an amendment to the Social Security Act in 1983, according to The Independent. The change was made to reflect longer life expectancies and help manage finances of the Social Security program.

Nearly 4 million U.S. citizens were born in 1960 and are turning 65 this year, according to Newsweek. They now have to wait until they turn 67 to receive full retirement benefits.

What social security benefits will you receive if you retire early?

Those who retire at 62 may receive a 30% cut on their monthly benefit. For instance, someone who may qualify for $1,000 per month by retiring at 67 years old would instead receive $700 monthly if they retire at 62. On the other hand, someone working up to 70 years old may increase their monthly payments by 24%. They would receive $1,240 per month instead of the set $1,000 they qualified for by retiring at 67.

The social security changes don’t affect those born before 1960

As long as someone has reached the FRA for the year they were born, they may collect full retirement benefits. If you were born between 1943 and 1954, 66 years old is the full retirement age, Newsweek reported. Born in 1955? Then it’s 66 years and two months. And if you were born in 1956, it is 66 years and four months. If you were born in 1957, it is 66 years and six months. If you were born in 1958, it is 66 years and eight months. If you were born in 1959, it is 66 years and 10 months.

Will the full retirement age be raised again?

Under the 1983 law, the full retirement age is not set to increase again. However, it doesn’t exempt future executive action or legislation from being passed in order to make changes.

The House Republican Study Committee shared a budget proposal in March 2025 that called for “modest adjustments to the retirement age for future retirees to account for increases in life expectancy,” according to The Independent. They did not specify a new retirement age in the proposal.

Walmart Prices Are Going Up: Here’s Why They Are Warning Customers

Walmart announced it is set to raise its prices in response to tariffs set on goods imported to the U.S. It said the tariffs set by President Donald Trump are “too high.”

The upcoming increase in prices is due to Trump’s tariffs, Walmart said.

“We will do our best to keep our prices as low as possible. But given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins,” the company’s CEO Doug McMillon said on Thursday, according to CNN. “The higher tariffs will result in higher prices.”

A 10% universal tariff was put on all goods imported into the United States, while a 30% tax was put on goods coming from China. 

When will Walmart start increasing its prices?

The increase in prices may start kicking in as early as late May.

“I’m concerned that [the] consumer is going to start seeing higher prices. You’ll begin to see that, likely towards the tail end of this month, and then certainly much more in June,” Walmart finance chief John David Rainey told CNBC.

“There are certain items, certain categories of merchandise that we’re dependent upon to import from other countries,” he added, per CNN. “Prices of those things are likely going to go up. And that’s not good for consumers.”

What products will be affected?

The tariffs put on goods from China will largely affect electronics and toys, while an increase may be observed on food imports from countries such as Costa Rica, Peru and Colombia.

Although most grocery products are sourced in the U.S., some items like bananas, avocados, coffee and roses aren’t grown domestically or aren’t available in sufficient quantities, McMillon said. Still, over two thirds of Walmart goods are “made, grown or assembled” in the United States.

About 10% of Walmart’s products are imported from China, Evercore ISI analyst Greg Melich estimated and told The Washington Post. To compare, Chinese imports represent 20% of Amazon products in the U.S. and 30% of Target products.

Black Woman Hiker Who Was Missing For Three Weeks Speaks Out After Getting Rescued

Tiffany Slaton, the woman who went missing for three weeks in April, is now telling the story of her survival. Slaton went on a solo camping vacation in the area of Shaver and Huntington lakes in Fresno County, California, but ended up stranded for 24 days. The 28-year-old was not rescued until she reached Vermillion Valley Resort, located about 40 miles from her original camping spot. That’s where she was found on Wednesday by the resort’s owner, per NBC News.

What did Tiffany Slaton say about her survival after missing for three weeks on a camping trip?

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Slaton said she’ll never go on another vacation longer than three days again. According to ABC News, the Georgia native said she fell off a cliff during her camping trip and was unconscious for two hours. She also injured both her legs but tried to heal herself using her experience as a horticulturist and an Olympian in archery. Slaton said that’s how she splinted one of her legs and popped the other knee back into place.

However, a recent avalanche made it difficult for Slaton to return to the road. She also attempted to call 911 but was unsuccessful.

In the following days, Slaton said she fought off dangerous animals, endured severe weather and hiked peaks as high as 11,000 feet.

“Nature is quite terrifying. Once you start finding things that are scary for you, you do your best to keep moving and get over it,” Slaton told reporters.

The hiker, who had a tent, two sleeping bags and a bicycle, was eventually left with only a lighter and a knife. Still, she remained determined to survive, especially because she was days away from her 28th birthday.

Palm Springs Bombing: FBI Reveals Identity Of Suspect In Fertility Clinic Attack That’s Now Dead

Following an act of terrorism that damaged a reproductive health facility in Palm Springs, California, on Saturday, police have announced that the person of interest in the attack is dead. According to KTLA 5, the FBI confirmed the news during a press conference on Sunday and identified the suspect as 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus, a resident of Twentynine Palms, California.

“We are fairly confident that Mr. Bartkus is our primary subject, our primary suspect, a person of interest,” Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI in Los Angeles, told reporters, per KESQ.

How did the suspect carry out the attack at a Palm Springs reproductive health facility?

Investigators believe Bartkus detonated a bomb inside a vehicle outside the fertility clinic on Saturday morning, killing one person and injuring four others. Authorities also said Bartkus may have been trying to livestream the attack. Additionally, the FBI confirmed that Bartkus’ remains were found in the car that exploded.

While the suspect appeared to be targeting the fertility clinic known as American Reproductive Centers, the street where the attack occurred is also home to several medical facilities, NBC News reported. The FBI released a photo of Bartkus and confirmed that he was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion sedan with California license plate 8HWS848. Investigators are still working to track his movements in the hours leading up to the explosion.

“We know where Bartkus was at about 6 a.m. [Saturday] and we know the timeline of when he entered the city; however, we need the public’s help in identifying where he traversed within the city before the explosion,” Davis said.

What kind of information did investigators find about the suspect in the Palm Springs explosion?

Davis said authorities found evidence indicating that Bartkus had “nihilistic ideations.”

“We are tracking a possible manifesto out there… we believe he was attempting to livestream [the incident],” Davis said, per KTLA 5.

Authorities also said they have found a 30-minute audio recording that supports the suspect’s anti-natalist views. Additionally, officials said Bartkus may be linked to a YouTube account that features videos on homemade explosives.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (May 16) on Billboard, choosing the BTS member’s latest solo endeavor as their favorite new music release of the past week.

JIN’s seven-track collection saw a landslide victory, with a staggering 93% of votes placed in support of the EP. Voters chose Echo over new releases from artists across genres, including Morgan Wallen, Rihanna, Laufey, Avicii (a posthumous compilation album), Lola Young, Sebastián Yatra and Rico Nasty.

Echo — the follow-up to JIN’s debut solo EP, 2024’s Happy — was released on Friday (May 16). “Don’t Say You Love Me,” “Nothing Without Your Love,” “Loser” featuring YENA, “Rope It,” “With the Clouds,” “Background” and “To Me, Today” make up the tracklist for the K-pop star’s new project. “Don’t Say You Love Me” also got an official music video, directed by Yongseok Choi and shot across various locations in Singapore.

Jesy Nelson Gives Birth to Twins at 31 Weeks: ‘Healthy and Fighting Strong’

Jesy Nelson and Zion Foster’s babies have arrived. The new parents welcomed healthy, identical twin girls who were born early, at 31 weeks, on Thursday (May 15).
Their premature birth occurred after Nelson faced complications with her pregnancy due to carrying monochorionic/diamniotic twins, babies who share a placenta while having separate amniotic sacs.

“Our beautiful baby girls decided to come at 31weeks plus 5 days,” Nelson announced in an Instagram post on Sunday (May 18). “It all happened so quickly, but we are so blessed that they are here with us, healthy and fighting strong! We’ve never felt more in love.”

“Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster,” the singer wrote in her introduction to the newborn twins. She uploaded sweet snapshots of herself and her partner, Foster, lovingly holding their babies; the proud dad shared Nelson’s post in an Instagram Story and commented, “My princesses are here.”

The former Little Mix member revealed she was pregnant in January in an Instagram post that indicated the couple was expecting twins. “She’s eating for 3 now,” she hinted at the time.

In early March, she shared that they’d learned that Ocean and Story were monochorionic/diamniotic twins, which raised medical concerns.

 “Normally, most twins will have two placentas that they feed off of, but when you have mono/di twins, that means your twins live off one placenta, which can lead to lots of complications,” Nelson explained in an emotional Instagram video posted in March. “One baby might take all the nutrients, the other might, which — really awful to say — could lead to both babies dying. At the moment, I am currently pre-stage TTTS, which is twin-to-twin transfusion. I’m being monitored very closely, I have to go be scanned twice a week.” (Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, or TTTS, is a rare pregnancy condition that affects identical twins or multiples when their shared network of blood vessels in the placenta is imbalanced, according to John Hopkins Medicine. One twin might give away more blood than it receives, risking malnourishment and organ failure, while the other twin might receive too much blood and become susceptible to the heart being overworked, or other cardiac complications.)

Days later, Nelson shared an update that doctors determined she needed to undergo a medical procedure that would “give our babies the best chance of surviving.”

Prior to giving birth on May 15, her last video update on Instagram came at the end of March, when she announced from the hospital that the operation had been successful, and the TTTS had “cleared up.” She said she was to stay in hospital, however, as doctors told her her cervix was very short and that her water could break at any time — “and I’m still very, very early.”

She also shared images from a black-and-white maternity photo shoot in early May.

Nelson and Foster were first linked together in January 2022. In August 2024, they released a song together titled “Mine.”

Bruce Springsteen Calls Out ‘Unfit President’ Trump Again, Says Elected Reps ‘Utterly Failed to Protect the American People’

Bruce Springsteen resumed denouncing Donald Trump from the stage of his Land of Hopes and Dreams Tour Saturday night (May 17) in Manchester, England.
The Los Angeles Times reports the Boss didn’t back down from his stance on Trump this weekend, after the U.S. president called Springsteen “highly overrated,” “dumb as a rock” and a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!)” in a post on Truth Social. The rant was Trump’s reaction to the musician calling out the president’s “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration” at his tour opener earlier in the week.

“Things are happening right now that are altering the very nature of our country’s democracy, and they’re too important to ignore,” Springsteen said to the crowd in a three-minute speech on Manchester’s Co-op Live stage on Saturday, as heard in a video posted by the L.A. Times.

“In my home, they’re persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. That’s happening now,” Springsteen said, echoing what he’d spoken about at his May 14 show. “In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death. That’s happening now. In my country, they’re taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers.”

Springsteen continued, “They are removing residents off American streets without due process of law and deploying them to foreign detention centers as prisoners. That’s happening now. The majority of our elected representatives have utterly failed to protect the American people from the abuses of an unfit president and a rogue government. They have no concern or idea of what it means to be deeply American.”

On a note of optimism that quoted novelist and civil rights activist James Baldwin, he added, “The America I’ve sung to you about for 50 years is real, and regardless of its many faults, it’s a great country with a great people, and we will survive this moment. Well, I have hope, because I believe in the truth of what the great American writer James Baldwin said. He said, ‘In this world, there isn’t as much humanity as one would like, but there’s enough.’”

On Friday, after Springsteen had shared similar thoughts from the stage on opening night of his tour, Trump responded on Truth Social, writing: “I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States. Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country. Sleepy Joe didn’t have a clue as to what he was doing, but Springsteen is ‘dumb as a rock,’ and couldn’t see what was going on, or could he (which is even worse!)? This dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just ‘standard fare.’ Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”

The “Born in the U.S.A.” singer, who’s performing across the U.K., France, Spain, Germany and Italy from now through early July, endorsed Trump’s opponent Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
