Aimee Allison, founder and president of the national organization She the People, filed a lawsuit against Tyler Perry and actor Terri J. Vaughn over the new Netflix series Tyler Perry’s She the People, alleging that the show infringes on the brand’s identity and draws similar themes from the overall mission of her company.

The countdown to Love Island USA Season 7 is underway, and as we prepare to meet the islanders on Peacock, a million-dollar question keeps coming up— just how steamy can things get on the show?

How far can things go on ‘Love Island’?

In today’s dating landscape, things can go either way — sex on the first date or waiting to tie the knot before hitting the sheets — it’s each person’s own prerogative. If you’re an islander, sex is not forbidden; however, it isn’t necessarily focused on during the show either.

For example, in Season 6, the contestants often used restaurant code words like finger foods, appetizers, etc. to describe their sex lives with their mates, and in other installments of the show, code words pertaining to beauty and football have been used to disclose how things have panned out in the bedroom.

According to former Love Island UK contestant Abi Moores, none of the Season 10 contestants had sex on the show. In an interview with The Sun, she shared that the Islanders were given condoms, however, Moores said she “didn’t even know where they were.”

In 2023, The Mirror journalist Katie Wilson reported that Love Island contestants are prepped on “what they can and can’t do to ensure their strict sexual behavior guidelines are met.”

Sex is allowed, but this is not

Wilson also wrote that “there is an outright ban on masturbating in the villas.” Additionally, although contestants are barely clothed throughout the show, full nudity in front of the cameras is not allowed, including in the shower.

Safe sex is encouraged, with an alleged 200 Love Island branded condoms scattered around the villas to promote safety in the bedroom, per The Mirror. The Hideaway is also stocked with protection, as well as a few things like lube, sex toys and role-play outfits that suggest that islanders are allowed to go all the way while on the show.

What are other villa rules?

If contestants are thinking about hot, drunk sex on the island, they can forget it, as there is a two-drink limit per night for each islander. 

The Mirror also reported that for anyone who does opt in for hooking up in the villa, seeing a counselor afterward is mandatory, and there is access to the morning after pill if necessary.

The Love Island USA Season 7 cast was revealed on May 29, and the show will premiere on June 3 on Peacock.

Love Island USA‘s hotly anticipated Season 7 has announced its first cast members!

Per the official description of the season, ” Temptations will rise and drama will ensue as Islanders face brand new couples’ challenges, jaw-dropping twists and turns, and even a few surprise guests in the vibrant Fiji villa. Once again, viewers will be able to vote for their favorite couples via the Love Island USA app to determine which Islanders will recouple, who will remain in the villa, and who goes home heartbroken.” Host Ariana Madix returns for the season, as does narrator Ian Stirling.

The Chi opened to big ratings for its seventh season.

The Paramount+ with Showtime series, which drops Paramount+ for Showtime plan subscribers before airing on the linear channel, has set a record for most-watched premiere.

Apple TV+ has dropped the first trailer for Smoke, the streamer’s upcoming crime drama series starring Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett.

Egerton also executive produces the series, and the project follows his prior collaboration with them, which was the 2022 limited series, Black Bird.

The series is created and written by Dennis Lehane and inspired by true events. Here’s the logline: Smoke follows an arson investigator who begrudgingly teams up with a police detective as their race to stop two arsonists ignites a twisted game of secrets and suspicions.

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series announced its cast on Monday, which includes Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout as the show’s leading trio: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

The news comes two years after they announced the show, which has been described as a “faithful adaptation” of the J.K. Rowling book series. Rowling will also serve as an executive producer on the show.

Arabella Stanton has an impressive background in theater

Although Stanton is only 11 years old, the same age Emma Watson was when she played Hermione in the first installment of the Harry Potter film series, she has extensive stage experience, according to RadioTimes.com. From 2023 to 2024, she played Matilda Wormwood in Matilda the Musical in London’s West End, and she starred in Starlight Express at Wembley Park Theatre in England.

Of the former, Stanton wrote on Instagram that it was her dream role.

“I started auditioning for Matilda the Musical the week after my 9th birthday and feel so lucky and honoured to have spent the age of 9 being able to play Matilda Wormwood at the Cambridge Theatre, London for the Royal Shakespeare Company (and at Buckingham Palace for an extra special performance at the BBC 500 Words Final),” she captioned a post reflecting on the show. “Being able to play the part of Matilda as my West End debut has been incredible .. dreams really can come true!”

McLaughlin and Stout also have previous acting experience

Stanton isn’t the only young actor with an impressive background on the show. According to RadioTimes.com, McLaughlin will appear in two TV shows: the BBC’s upcoming action series Gifted and the Sky comedy Grow. Like Stanton, he has stage experience, having acted in Macbeth at the Royal Highland Centre alongside Ralph Fiennes, who appeared in the Harry Potter films as Lord Voldemort.

The new Harry Potter show will be Stout’s first significant acting role. The Scotsman reported that he appeared in an advertisement for Albert Bartlett, a British potato brand.

Long-time fans of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale have been bracing for the show’s thrilling conclusion for some time. The series, which adapts its narrative from Margaret Atwood’s iconic 1985 novel of the same name, has been airing since 2017 and has taken several twists, turns and deviations from the source material. Those who have been watching The Handmaid’s Tale since the very beginning will recall that Serena first came into the show as a staunch supporter of the Gilead regime. As a wife to Commander Wharton, she bullies, manipulates and attacks June (AKA Offred) throughout the entirety of the show’s first season. Still, Serena is never depicted as completely unsalvageable, and she becomes progressively more sympathetic as the series continues. By the time season six rolls around, she is a loving mother to a boy named Noah, whom she swears to protect with her very life. Throughout the last several episodes of the show, June and her cohorts work tirelessly to dismantle the Gilead regime, especially in the city of Boston, which serves as an integral battleground for the post-apocalyptic nation.

In the Handmaid’s Tale finale, Serena manages to successfully defect from Gilead, just as the rebels take out the commanding officers and reclaim Boston for America. She is left with no home, no allies and no real prospects for her future – though her main goal, to protect Noah, remains her sole focus. She ultimately defects from Gilead and makes her way towards a U.N. refugee camp after acknowledging that she can never return to the misogynistic nation, which remains active in other portions of the former United States and Canada.

Before she skips town, Serena shares a moving discussion with June, which sees her apologizing for her role in June’s misfortune throughout the years. “When I recall some of the things that were done to you,” Serena says, “the things that I did, that I forced you to do, I’m ashamed.” June accepts this apology, prepared to move on to bigger and more dangerous foes, prompting Tuello to remark, “That was very generous of you.”

Does Hannah get out of Gilead?

With Serena headed toward an uncertain future, June is free to turn her attention back on her children. She manages to locate her daughter Nichole during the finale, though The Handmaid’s Tale ends before she can reunite with her other daughter, Hannah. As Boston is liberated, Tuello informs June that Hannah has moved to Colorado, where she lives under the assumed name Agnes McKenzie. Hannah is still a resident of Gilead when the credits roll. However, our protagonist comes to learn that Hannah will soon be moving from Colorado to Washington D.C. This means that June has a better shot than ever before at reconnecting with her daughter and freeing her from the oppressive regime.

As Luke says during the final moments of the series, “The way we get Hannah back is we take down Gilead one piece at a time.” This could leave the entire series with an open-ended conclusion, or it could be setting the stage for the forthcoming Handmaid’s Tale sequel series. According to a report in USA Today, The Testaments is currently in the works at Hulu, and aims to tell “a coming-of-age story that finds a new generation of young women in Gilead grappling with the bleak future that awaits them.”

The show will reportedly center on Hannah and is expected to take place 15 years after the events of the original series. While there’s no confirmation yet that June actress Elisabeth Moss will be appearing in the show, she has signed on with an executive producer credit, meaning the Handmaid’s Tale finale may not be the last we see of June.

The plot of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ series finale

Leading up to the finale, fans witnessed the victims of Gilead’s oppressive ways finally get the revenge they had long deserved. According to E! Online, the penultimate episode saw Commander Joseph Lawrence (Bradly Whitford), Commander Nick Blaine (Max Minghella), June Osborne’s (Moss) boyfriend, and Commander Gabriel Wharton (Josh Charles) die in a bombed plane filled with Gilead leaders. 

Without leadership, Massachusetts gets its freedom, and the rebellious Mayday group aims to liberate New York City next. According to Vanity Fair, Luke (O-T Fagbenle) joins Mayday as it continues to fight the regime, and he and June commit to the quest to free their daughter, Hannah.

“I think it wasn’t until the end of the season that I really realized the effect that becoming a mom had on the season as a whole,” Moss told Vanity Fair of welcoming her daughter in 2024 before the series finale. “I am not a writer on the show, so I don’t come up with the storylines. But I do think there’s an influence that happened because of this new chapter in my life.”

Did Serena lose her power?

After helping June take down the Commanders in the penultimate episode, Serena Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) loses her power and is banished to a refugee camp with her baby. She and June have a tearful reconciliation, during which June forgives her for everything she did to her in the past.

Did Emily return in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ finale?

The finale concludes with June recording her voice to write a book about Gilead, a nod to the show’s source material, the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel of the same name. Mirroring the pilot, she sits on a windowsill in the Waterford home and recites the same monologue from the first episode.

“A chair, a table, a lamp, there’s a window with white curtains,” June’s voiceover starts. “The glass is shatterproof, but it isn’t running away they’re afraid of. A handmaid wouldn’t get far.” 

Moss says the last line with her signature sly smile.

“My name is Offred,” she says, closing the show.

Moss says the ending is ‘honestly perfection’

Although fans hoped to see June reconnect with Hannah, who predominantly appears in the finale via flashbacks, Moss thinks the final episode is “honestly perfection.”

“It’s not the first show I’ve ended,” Moss, who’s starred in shows like The West Wing and Mad Men, told Vanity Fair. “And it is impossible to make everyone happy. Look: When I see a show, I tend to buy into whatever the creators of the show put forward as their ending. I’m the type of person who is like, If that’s the way that they think this show ends, then that’s the way that it ends. I loved the ending of The Sopranos, of Breaking Bad, of Seinfeld. The ending of Friday Night Lights is amazing.”

She emphasized the importance of seeing June in the same place and reciting the same monologue as she did at the show’s beginning.

“Margaret has this quote: ‘A word after a word after a word is power.’ And I think that that is where June ends. She’s like, I am going to tell my story, because my story and these words have power. And I love that. She sits down, and she’s going to tell her story to Hannah. It’s for her,” Moss said.

Secrets We Keep centers on an upper-class neighborhood in the suburbs of Copenhagen, where most of the homeowners are wealthy enough to hire live-in staff. For Cecilie and her husband Mike, this means taking on Angel, an immigrant from the Philippines, to handle their household chores, cleaning and childcare. Before the series begins, Angel’s friend Ruby goes to Cecilie and asks for help finding a position of her own. Cecilie recommends her to her neighbors, Rasmus and Katarina, who are looking for their own live-in employee. Unfortunately, in the first episode of Secrets We Keep, Ruby goes missing, prompting Cecilie to start asking questions. Rasmus, Katarina and even Mike seem entirely unbothered by her disappearance, which only raises Cecilie’s suspicions that something nefarious has taken place right under her nose.

Things continue to heat up in episode two, when Cecilia stumbles upon a pregnancy test hidden in the bushes outside her neighbor’s home. She begins to suspect that Ruby was the victim of some kind of tryst, which may have led directly to her disappearance. After Cecilia gets the police involved, Rasmus agrees to undergo a DNA test in conjunction with the results of the pregnancy test. In doing so, he inadvertently implicates his own teenage son Oscar in the conspiracy, since his DNA is only a partial match. At this point in the story, the audience learns that Oscar and his teenage friends have been filming inappropriate videos of unsuspecting women and sharing them in a group chat. These videos include sexually explicit content shot from hidden cameras, depicting several of the housewives, servants and young girls in the neighborhood.

As Cecilia continues to investigate Ruby’s disappearance privately, she corresponds with Aicha, the lead detective attached to the case. Aicha uncovers evidence to suggest that Rasmus has a history of violence against both his wife and his previous employees. Cecilia confirms that Rasmus and Katarina have gone through several au pairs in previous years, and struggle to maintain long-term help. Aicha also learns that Ruby’s bag has been dumped in the woods outside of town, leading her to believe that her body may be nearby. As Secrets We Keep continues, it becomes increasingly clear that Ruby was not just kidnapped, but that she has almost certainly been murdered.

Aicha speaks to Ruby’s priest, who refuses at first to reveal any of the private details from their confession sessions. After an initial search party fails to turn up any promising results, however, the priest confides in the detective that Ruby had been sexually assaulted, though she never named her attacker. As a devout Catholic, Ruby refused to abort the child. The priest claims that the last time he saw Ruby alive, she intended to speak to her attacker directly about the future of their child. Obviously, this discussion ultimately led to her disappearance. To protect Angel’s safety, Cecilia relieves her of her duty and gives her some cash and a ticket back to the Philippines. As episode four of Secrets We Keep comes to a conclusion, Ruby’s body is discovered in a local marina, confirming that she was, in fact, murdered.

Who killed Ruby?

Throughout the entire run of Secrets We Keep, Cecilia’s son Viggo repeatedly asks his mother if she has time for a private discussion. Viggo stresses that it’s extremely important, though Cecilia is so wrapped up with Ruby’s disappearance that she continually ignores and forgets about him. Eventually, we learn exactly what was eating Viggo, as it turns out he’s known about Ruby’s assault for some time. Apparently, Oscar shot a video of himself sexually assaulting Ruby and shared it with his friends in their depraved group chat. Though Viggo was game for some upskirt footage and ill-begotten nude photos, this video was a bridge too far, and he threatened to go to the police. To protect himself, Oscar pins Viggo down and chokes him, before threatening to kill him if he tells the authorities.

Eventually, the video does go public, and a parent-teacher meeting is called to discuss the growing problem of young men in the community and their obsession with illegally capturing and sharing pornographic material. Cecilia takes this information to the police, but by the time they arrive at Oscar’s home, his mother Katarina has already destroyed all of the evidence. This leaves the police unable to prosecute Oscar, and his parents send him away to a boarding school, effectively sweeping their problems under the rug and passing the buck to a new environment.

Needless to say, Cecilia is horrified by her friend and even confronts her directly to ask who really killed Ruby. Still suspecting that the killer may have been Rasmus or Mike, Cecilia is shocked when Katarina wistfully looks out to the water and mutters, “Those men, they think everything sorts itself out.”

‘Secrets We Keep’ ending explained

Ultimately, we don’t get many definitive answers as to the circumstances surrounding Ruby’s death. It is heavily implied that Katarina may have killed Ruby and dumped her body in the marina herself to save her son. Still, some fans aren’t convinced. It’s also possible that Rasmus and Mike were involved in dumping the body and covering up the disappearance. Oscar may have even killed her himself, fearing retribution for his disturbing sexual assault. Since Ruby was left in the water for so long before being found, any fingerprints or DNA evidence from her killer is washed away, leaving the killer to get off scot-free. Oscar lives to terrorize more women in the future, while the families of Copenhagen are forever changed.

Secrets We Keep offers a number of intense themes, dealing with class, race and culture. If Cecilia were a more attentive mother, she could have learned the truth about Oscar’s attack much sooner. Had she taken the time to vet her own friends before recommending Ruby to them, she could have learned that things were not safe in her neighbor’s home. And had she maintained a more open and honest relationship with her husband, she wouldn’t have suspected him of having an affair with an au pair, and killing her to cover it up.

The insular community wrought by wealth has allowed people like Cecilia to live lavish lifestyles, while stripping them of their humanity. This is especially present in the children of the community, who have become so morally lost that they allowed a video depicting violent sexual assault to circulate for weeks before informing the authorities.

How many episodes of ‘Secrets We Keep’ are there?

Secrets We Keep runs for just six episodes, each spanning roughly 30-45 minutes in length. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that the show will receive a second season, since the story wraps up fairly definitively. The show has been compared to Adolescence due to its concise length, focused storyline and deep, interesting characters. While discussing her inspiration for the narrative with Netflix’s Tudum, series creator Ingeborg Topsøe explained, “I’ve always been fascinated by the power structures within a family… Denmark is often portrayed as a very egalitarian society, and I’ve never seen homes like these portrayed on TV. Perhaps it’s a reality we don’t want to acknowledge the existence of… Au pairs are ‘part of the family,’ while being employed, and parents are well-meaning, while absent. It’s these cold, hard facts — hidden beneath a soft layer of niceness — that intrigues me.”

Despite some lingering questions, it’s unlikely that Topsøe has planned to produce additional seasons of the show. Still, Netflix execs could choose to renew Secrets We Keep for additional episodes, especially if the series performs well with subscribers. For now, there’s no way to know for sure, though it’s always worth keeping an eye out for Topsøe’s next project, which is sure to be loaded with intense themes and thrilling twists.
