Tulane University has announced that basketball star Gregg Glenn III has died at age 22 after being involved in what the school described as an “accident.” Sarah Cunningham, vice president, student affairs, at Tulane shared the news in a somber statement, saying Glenn is not only remembered for his athletic achievements, but also for his character.

“We have lost a cherished member of our university community, Gregg Glenn III, who died in a tragic accident this weekend,” Cunningham said in the statement.. “He was a talented student-athlete who enriched our lives with his spirit, dedication, and passion for both sports and academics.”

Glenn played at Michigan as a freshman and appeared in four games, then transferred to Tulane in 2023, CBS Sports reported. As a junior this past season, Glenn started all 34 games. He averaged 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in his junior season, posting three double-doubles and becoming the team’s second-leading rebounder, ESPN reported.. Glenn played in 64 games in two seasons at Tulane. The Pompano Beach, Florida, native studied health and wellness.

The personal information of thousands of women has been compromised after hackers breached the Tea app. According to NBC News, hackers may have accessed thousands of selfies and photo IDs from the app, which is a platform where women can secretly talk about men they’re dating for safety reasons.

How much data is compromised in the Tea app breach?

A spokesperson for Tea told NBC News that about 72,000 photos on the app have been hacked. The hacked images include 13,000 verification photos and government IDs. Some of the hacked data also includes content that is more than two years old.

“This data was originally stored in compliance with law enforcement requirements related to cyberbullying prevention,” the Tea spokesperson told NBC News.

According to the Associated Press, hackers have also accessed 59,000 images that are publicly viewable on posts in the app. Additionally, the perpetrators have accessed dozens of comments and direct messages without authorization. However, the hackers didn’t get access to any email addresses or phone numbers, the AP reported. The users affected by the breach are people who signed up for the app before February 2024.

The company said it has now hired third-party cybersecurity pros to secure its systems.

How does the Tea app work?

The Tea app allows women to search for specific men using photos that are uploaded to the app. Users go to the app to share information about the men, labeling them as a “green” or “red” flag.

Although the app initially requires users to take selfies to prove they are women, the company says the images are deleted after verification is complete. The app also promises anonymity to the women and prevents screenshots.

“Tea is a must-have app, helping women avoid red flags before the first date with dating advice, and showing them who’s really behind the profile of the person they’re dating,” the app’s description states, per the AP.

The Tea app announced on Thursday that it gained a million new users in recent days and now stands as one of the most popular free apps in the Apple App Store.

Walmart is launching a new concept known as “dark stores.” According to AL.com,, the new stores will not be open to the public. Instead, they will only be used to fulfill online orders. In an earnings call earlier this year, the company said the dark stores will make online deliveries more efficient.

“Delivery speed continues to help drive our business. We’ll soon reach 95% of the population in the U.S. with delivery options of three hours or less,” Walmart’s chief executive officer Douglas McMillon said during the call, per AL.com.

Walmart, which already opened the first dark store in Dallas, Texas, plans to soon expand the concept to the company’s hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas.

The new dark stores are not made to stand out like Walmart’s regular stores. However, the inside of the stores will feature many of the items people usually get from Walmart. Although the public is not allowed inside, the items will be delivered from here when customers make online orders.

Per Walmart, the company started delivering items with drones in 2021 and it has already “completed more than 150,000 deliveries within minutes.”

“With the expansion, the company is set to make shopping even more convenient for its shoppers — offering thousands of products delivered directly to their door, faster than ever — in 30 minutes or less,” the company stated.

The founder of a New York baseball training organization protected some of his players from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who questioned them about their birthplace.

Youman Wilder, the creator and coach who launched the nonprofit Harlem Baseball Hitting Academy, felt compelled to intervene in an unexpected police interrogation involving his athletes following a recent practice, according to MSNBC. During an interview with Nicole Wallace, Wilder spoke about how the incident unfolded. 

Why did Wilder feel the need to step in and help?

Wilder said practice was finishing up, and he was playing basketball with some of his trainees, who challenged his skills on the court. Despite witnessing ICE agents in other neighborhoods, he never thought he would be involved in an encounter himself until the boys he trains were approached and questioned.

“I just saw these ICE officers walking. And I had seen them in Washington Heights, I had seen them in Dyckman…up where more Dominican kids and South American kids live,” he explained. “When I turned around to get the ball, and I turned around again, and I saw them approaching my kids.” 

Wilder mentioned he heard the agents ask the children where they and their parents are from.

“I just stepped in and said, ‘This is very inappropriate to ask these kids anything,’ Wilder told Wallace. “And I said, ‘As a person who’s supervising them, I’ll have them implement their 5th Amendment right and not have them say anything to you.’”

Wilder said the agent’s “wonderful words” to him in response were, “Oh, another YouTube lawyer.”

Following their initial exchange, the agents remained steadfast in wanting to question the children.

“They kept moving the goal post,” Wilder said.

“The whole thing came off like, ‘I don’t care what you say.’ ‘I don’t care what the law says,” he added.

Wilder recalled, “And the only thing I had that day was my uncle, Pete, in my ear, who’s my bishop, my mother in my ear, the Constitution, and prayer. That’s the only thing I had that day.”

He mentioned that attendance has dramatically decreased since the incident.

“We usually carry, you know, between 20 and 25 kids who are playing. And we usually carry, during the summer, between 11 and 15 kids, and we’re having one kid show up at practice right now,” Wilder said.

Embracing resilience, not victimhood, after ICE confrontation

Although the uncomfortable encounter happened, Wilder wanted to reiterate that he and the members of his academy aren’t victims in this situation.

“This academy has been around for 22 years. We’ve graduated 400 kids out of college who walk around with degrees from Stanford, Princeton, and Harvard, all African American and Latino kids,” Wilder said about HBHA. “We’re not going around saying, ‘Poor little us,’ ’cause we do very, very good work.”

He continued, “If this can happen on the Upper West Side of 72nd Street, it can happen to anybody. There’s got to be a better way for the administration to deal with this, and there’s got to be a better way for people to understand their rights.”

Upper West Side Assembly member Linda Rosenthal highlighted the incident in an email, according to I Love The Upper West Side.

“I recently learned that ICE agents approached a group of kids attending baseball practice near the batting cages near West 71st Street in Riverside Park,” Rosenthal wrote. “The only thing that stood between those kids in Riverside Park and a Florida detention center buried deep in the Everglades was a brave coach who knew the law. Each one of us has the power to make a difference right in our own backyards.”

Top Boy star Michael Ward is facing charges of rape and sexual assault after a woman came forward with her complaint, saying she was assaulted in the United Kingdom in 2023. According to People, London police said Ward is charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

“Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence, the Crown Prosecution Service has authorized the Metropolitan police to charge Micheal Ward, 27, with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault against a woman in January 2023,” Catherine Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, said in a statement, per The Guardian.

Baccas also emphasized the need for a fair trial and urged the public to avoid rushing to conclusions.

“We remind all concerned that proceedings against the suspect are active and he has a right to a fair trial,” the prosecutor said. “It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

“I deny the charges against me entirely. The identity of the South Carolina resident who was the victim of a recent, fatal “brain-eating amoeba” discovery has been uncovered, and it was a 12-year-old boy.

According to People, Jaysen Carr was the individual affected by a rare case of Naegleria fowleri. Once inside, the “ameba” causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM), a rapidly progressing infection of the brain and its membranes, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Symptoms start like a bad flu with a headache, fever, and nausea, but snowball into a stiff neck, confusion, seizures, inattention to people and surroundings, hallucinations, and coma. Additionally, it’s almost always fatal.

When was it discovered that Carr was infected?

As reported by WIS10, the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) confirmed on Monday that the rare single-cell organism had gotten into the preteen’s body shortly after the July 4 holiday.

“The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) was made aware of one case of Naegleria fowleri in our state the week of July 7. Naegleria fowleri is not required to be reported to DPH. The agency does not track infections from the amoeba and does not provide information about or comment on individual cases, including the person’s condition,” the department told the news station in a statement. “Recreational water users should assume that Naegleria fowleri is present in warm freshwater; however, the risk of infection is very low. There are less than 10 cases annually in the United States. While rare, Naegleria fowleri is nearly always fatal.”

Carr died from complications of the free‑living amoeboflagellate on July 18. His relatives confirmed the sad news on July 24 and shared that he caught it while swimming in Lake Murray near Columbia, South Carolina.

“Jaysen’s family is grieving this unthinkable loss, but they are also grateful at the outpouring of love and support they have received from the community,” Tyler Bailey, the family’s lawyer, said in an exclusive statement sent to WIS10. “The family has many questions about how and why Jaysen died and wants to do everything in their power to ensure this doesn’t happen to another family.”

The medical staff at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital – Midlands cared for Carr while he endured the effects of Naegleria fowleri, which Bailey mentioned the family was grateful “for their dedicated care and compassion for him and their entire family.”

The CDC noted that Naegleria fowleri “naturally lives in the environment and thrives in heat” and enters the body by going up the nose and into the brain. The typical environments it’s in are:

Warm fresh water like lakes, rivers, and ponds

Soil, including sediment at the bottom of lakes, rivers, and ponds

Naturally hot (geothermal) water like hot springs or hot sources of drinking water

Swimming pools, splash pads, surf parks, and other recreational venues that are poorly maintained or don’t have enough chlorine

Warm water discharge from industrial or power plants

Water heaters

If someone has a concern that they or someone they know has contracted “brain-eating amoeba,” the CDC recommends not hesitating to get medical attention immediately if they suddenly experience fever, headache, vomiting, or neck stiffness, especially following time spent in warm freshwater where Naegleria fowleri is known to live.

GloRilla, born Gloria Hallelujah Woods, was arrested Tuesday on felony drug possession charges after Georgia police responded to an attempted burglary at her home.

According to People, police found marijuana and a controlled substance inside the 25-year-old rapper’s residence during a probe into the home burglary attempt.

She “voluntarily turned herself in to the Forsyth County Jail” on Tuesday, according to a statement provided to People by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Woods faces charges of felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance. She was later released on a $22,260 bond.

When did the attempted break-in happen?

Her arrest followed a police response to a reported break-in at her home around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, after authorities received a call about “a burglary in progress.”

“It was reported that three suspects had entered the home and were in the process of stealing items when an armed occupant fired at the intruders,” the police statement read, per People. “The suspects fled the scene, and it does not appear that any of them were struck. No injuries were reported among the home’s occupants.”

Woods was not home at the time of the attempted break-in. On Thursday, she spoke out on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the incident.

Police have conducted a probe into the attempted home invasion

While police were unable to locate the suspects, “a thorough investigation” was executed “due to the nature of the incident,” per People.

“While on scene, deputies detected a strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics. As a result, the Lanier Regional Drug Task Force was contacted and responded to the residence,” police said in the statement.

According to a search warrant, “a significant amount of marijuana” was located in Woods’ bedroom closet, police stated.

Authorities confirmed that a probe into the attempted home invasion is still “active and ongoing.”

Woods is “a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” Sheriff Ron Freeman said about the case, per People.

Tennessee residents can take advantage of tax-free weekend, which kicks off on Friday and offers a temporary break from having to pay the state’s combined sales tax when purchasing items.

What are companies participating in Tennessee’s tax-free weekend saying?

Companies like Owl’s Nest are gearing up for the weekend-long event, and owner Jessica Moore spoke with WJHL about how she is preparing for it.

“We see thousands of people come through these doors, and it is about double our normal weekend,” Moore told the outlet.

Moore said the store has back-to-school items all year round, but starts putting out these much needed items a week before the tax-free weekend begins.

In addition to the tax exemption, Moore said the company has also offered other discounts for the past 15 years.

“It’s our better-than-tax-free weekend,” she explained. “And so it is tax-free on the applicable items, but then also 10% off the entire store. And then the store credit is also good during that time, too. A lot of people still hold onto their store credit to use it for different shopping sprees, and we do honor that during this weekend also.”

What are the other states participating in tax-free weekend?

Nineteen other states have tax-free weekend holidays, including Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

Recently, the Muscogee Nation Supreme Court in Oklahoma determined that Black Americans whose ancestors were enslaved by the tribe qualify for tribal membership.

As the Associated Press reported, the court’s bench ruled in favor of Rhonda Grayson and Jeffrey Kennedy, whose applications were denied by the tribe’s citizenship committee in 2019 over the absence of documentation tracing directly back to tribal members.

The seven justices agreed that the board’s decision breached the 1866 agreement known as the Treaty with the Creeks, which was made between the Nation and the US, which outlawed “slavery or involuntary servitude” except as criminal punishment, according to the Black Past. 

The Muscogee Nation tribe denied citizenship to descendants of enslaved people

The Muscogee Nation was among five Oklahoma tribes that historically enslaved people. The reason the membership board didn’t approve Grayson and Kennedy was the absence of any documented heir tracing directly back to tribal members. They didn’t have the proper proof needed due to being descendants of those whom the tribe enslaved.

As noted by the Black Past, once the 1866 treaty was finalized, it also guaranteed that formerly enslaved Creek Freedmen and their descendants “shall have and enjoy all the rights and privileges of native citizens,” including equal interest in land and national funds. 

In 1979, the tribe established a governing charter that limited enrollment to those who could prove direct blood descent, as recorded on the early 1900s Dawes census. That federal registry separated enrolled Muscogee members from those listed as Freedmen. On Wednesday, the high court sent the case back to the tribe’s enrollment authority, instructing it to honor the 1866 treaty. The decision guarantees equal citizenship to both Grayson and Kennedy, as well as to any future applicants whose ancestors appear on either of the Dawes lists.

“Are we, as a Nation, bound to treaty promises made so many years ago? Today, we answer in the affirmative, because this is what Mvskoke law demands,” the judges explained in their written decision, per the Associated Press.

The court ruled that any clause invoking “by  blood” lineage in the Nation’s charter is invalid, likely triggering a rewrite of those sections. Under one article, candidates must still prove at least 25 % Muscogee heritage to qualify for office.

“We are currently reviewing the order to understand its basis as well as its implications for our processes,” Muscogee Nation Chief David Hill shared via the Associated Press. “It may be necessary to ask for a reconsideration of this order to receive clarity so that we can ensure that we move forward in a legal, constitutional manner.”

The Muscogee Nation court’s ruling that Freedmen are entitled to citizenship is a victory for thousands

Grayson told the Associated Press that the ruling opens an avenue for thousands of people who were previously barred by lineage to gain official citizenship.

“While this victory honors our past, it also offers a meaningful opportunity for healing and reconciliation,” Grayson said. “It’s time now to come together, rebuild trust, and move forward as one united Nation, ensuring future generations never again face exclusion or erasure.”

“When I heard the ruling, I felt generations of my family exhale at once,” Kennedy added. “Our ancestors signed that treaty in good faith, and today the Court finally honored their word.”

Jonathon Velie, an attorney who worked on behalf of Freedmen citizens in other similar cases, emphasized that the Interior Department regards Freedmen from both nations equally, even though each tribe applies its own membership rules.

“I hope the (Muscogee) Creek Nation welcomes them back in, because what they won today wasn’t the U.S. Government or the U.S. courts telling them, they told themselves in their own judicial system,” Velie told the Associated Press.
