Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s next project, Fightland, a Starz series set in the world of British boxing, has announced its cast as production begins.
Starz announced Thursday that the crime drama has started production in London, with Howard Charles and Nicholas Pinnock headlining and Otto Bathurst directing the first two episodes. Supacell director Sebastian Thiel will direct the remainder of the season. Jackson executive produces through G-Unit Film & Television.
According to the description, the series “follows a disgraced, formerly incarcerated boxing champion who returns to London to seek vengeance against the crime family he thinks betrayed him. With edge-of-seat action and populated by dangerous characters, this is a world of money and power never seen before.”
Charles will play Maduka ‘Duke’ Kilroy, described as “a former heavyweight world champion who, after a traumatic tragedy, returns home to London to enact revenge.” Pinnock plays Kinglsey Marshall, a Jamaican-born South London criminal kingpin who is not short on enemies or contacts in the worlds of boxing and gambling. Deborah Ayorinde also stars as Joy Marshall, Kinglsey’s wife who is creating her own empire independent from her husband’s.
The cast also includes Charles Babalola and Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Kinglsey’s children Ezekiel “Zeek” and Cebella “Cece” Marshall, Tahirah Sharif as Kim Harper, a ring card girl who becomes friends with Duke, Tyler Conti as Duke’s best friend Justin “Jay” Hall and Richard Pepple as Garry “Gazzer” Kilroy, Duke’s estranged father and trainer of local amateur boxers.
Executive producing alongside Jackson include Expanded Media’s Francis Hopkinson and Kate Leadbetter. Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr., who have both worked on Power, BMF and Genius: MLK/X, will serve as showrunners, executive producers and writers. Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith will also write and serve as executive producers.
