The multihyphenate stays booked and busy, so she does her best to remain on top of her health given the variety of events, meetings, sets and more she attends regularly. Since the cold and flu season has returned, she recently spoke with Blavity about how she typically tackles this time of the year, her second partnership with the “top-rated” cough healing agent Delsym and what’s next on her radar.
Since childhood, Delsym’s 12-hour cough suppressant liquid has always been in Anthony’s medicine cabinet. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she’s stayed loyal to a brand that’s helped her and her loved ones stay afloat when cough symptoms arise.
“I just remember it was always there,” she told Blavity. “I don’t remember how it appeared, but when you opened the cabinet it was just always there. And then, you know, being a mom and having a son, I just remember always having Delsym. Like you just knew you had to have it.”
Last year, she was happy to collaborate with the medication for their Bring Comfort Home campaign since it was a product she consistently used. The relationship between her and the brand has since evolved. This year, they’ve joined forces for her seventh annual Winter Wonderland charity event on Dec. 11 in the Bronx with Delsym as the presenting sponsor.
“This [Delsym] was a staple in my household. This is a staple for my son, and now I’m able to partner with them on such an amazing event. You wanna partner with brands that have similar morals and values and visions that you do,” she shared. “I know they’re about comfort. I know they’re about family. I know they’re about giving back, so it was just perfect to be able to use the Winter Wonderland this year as a kind of launching pad for us to come together and just do good in the community, which is what means the most to me.”
In addition to the cough medicine, Anthony loves to eat her favorite traditional Puerto Rican chicken soup dish to soothe her throat. It was even included as a meal kit for a few lucky winners in her previous ad campaign with Delsym. Although she’s not the biggest cook, the recipe has been passed down to her son Kiyan, who also knows how to cook it.
“He knows when he is sick we always do like homemade soup and stuff like that. My mom will come in and do that stuff, but I need to get better at learning how to make it on my own. I made it with the ‘Bring Comfort Home’ campaign, but I had my mom on deck. I gotta get better at it to where I could just do it like myself at any time,” she said smiling.
When asked about sharing the recipe with the masses, she replied it’s possible the special dish could be on the shelves of grocery stores as a future endeavor to continue pushing good healthcare remedies.
Some work of Anthony that she’s looking forward to people seeing next year are her roles as Markaisha Taylor in season four of Starz’s hit series BMF and Dominique “Dom” Morris on Showtime’s fan-favorite show The Chi for season seven in 2025. She mentioned fans will witness both characters’ evolution and star power as they continue to grow while navigating womanhood.
“The love triangle…him [Terry Flenory, played by her co-star Davinci] and Lawanda and that whole thing,” Anthony said regarding Markaisha. “I just think you really see Markaisha making a decision like, ‘What am I doing here? I’m a mom, I have kids…like is this even safe for my kids to be in this situation?’ And like stepping into really wanting to be her own boss and not relying on men for that power anymore.”
“Markaisha is figuring out is it love or is it the money and the power with Terry? Which one is she really chasing? But I think at the core she really does love Terry,” she added.
As it pertains to Dom, she commented that the driven chef “is really stepping into the same thing, her own power and really navigating in a relationship that she’s in but still maintaining her independence and power.”
“She’s really of the mindset like, ‘I don’t wanna let a relationship change me. I wanna be who I am. I don’t wanna follow the traditional…whatever guides of how a relationship’s supposed to be,” Anthony continued “You see that struggle that’s going on there, so there’s a really interesting season for both the characters and just an interesting season overall.”
Being a woman who has pivoted throughout life, she can see parts of herself in both women. With love being the center of both storylines, she believes women can easily relate.
“I’m sure that’s something that the majority of women out here, right, can relate to…the complexities of finding love, once you’re in love the relationship’s ups and downs and everything,” she said. “So, both characters are going through different journeys, but similar in the sense of what their core value is, what they’re looking for.”
Anthony’s career started as a radio personality turned MTV VJ, she’s proud of the barriers she broke for her career and is excited for what’s to come because she works hard and doesn’t take acting lightly.
“I wear that with honor to be on these shows that I know are such a staple and mean so much to the Black community. And for me it was really just about believing in myself and pushing through coming from being on the radio and then MTV VJ and so many people saying like, ‘No, that’s all you can do. You can’t be an actor. If you’re a radio host, that’s what you are. If you’re a TV personality, that’s what you are.’” she explained. “And me really saying, ‘No, why does it have to be like that? I wanna do something else. I wanna try something else.’ But I put the work in, [and] still put the work in with acting school, acting classes, training, whatever it takes to really show that I’m serious about the craft and serious about the space.”
