The next Superman film is coming sooner than we think.
Outlets report that James Gunn will be ready to bring the Superman sequel, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, to theaters July 9, 2027. Gunn made the announcement on social media with a drawn image by Jim Lee featuring Superman and Lex Luthor in a mech suit.
What could the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ plot be about?
According to Variety, the mech suit is Luthor’s Warsuit in order to match Superman’s superhuman abilities. The Hollywood Reporter speculates that Superman’s friendly demeanor towards Luthor in the picture might suggest that Luthor and Superman might work together. There is precedent for this in the comics, with several of their team-ups happening in parallel universes. But we’ll see where Gunn takes the two.
Schedule for upcoming DCU films
Before the sequel hits theaters, though, fans will be able to watch Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock, in 2026. The sequel will be bookended by Clayface, the DCU’s body horror film about the eponymous Batman villain, which will hit theaters Oct. 1, 2027.
Superman firmly cemented Gunn’s new DCU as a critical and financial powerhouse. The film earned $611 million worldwide, earning the title of 2025’s highest-grossing superhero film. The film stars David Corenswet the title role. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, María Gabriela de Faría, Alan Tudyk, Angela Sarafyan, Bradley Cooper and Wendell Pierce.
