A bystander captured a video of the unidentified woman, who has been dubbed “Poolside Karen,” putting her hands on a young Black boy to prevent him from entering a community pool on July 6, the International Business Times reported.
Heather J. Brown, the child’s mother, can be heard in the video yelling at the woman.
“Don’t you put your hands on my son. Don’t you ever, ever put your hands on my son,” Brown told the white woman.
“Actually I will call the police and have you arrested for putting your hands on a minor,” she continued before the woman encouraged her to do so.
Frustrated, Brown assured the white woman that she would be going to jail for her actions. At the time, however, Brown had no idea there was a video of the incident and was told that the woman identified herself as the victim and said she had been assaulted by the mom.
The woman later said that officers would believe her version of the story “based on just the way we look,” The Daily Mail reported.
The bystander who captured the footage handed it over to police after revealing that the woman, who is a member of the homeowner’s association pool committee, was known for being racist and preventing non-white children from entering the pool, the International Business Times reported.
The woman is also accused of allowing two white boys into the pool area the same say she prevented the Black boy from entering.
After Brown uploaded the video to TikTok, which has garnered nearly five million views, the white woman was charged with assault on a minor.
She is scheduled to appear for a court hearing on Aug. 20.
