The Love Island Games have officially commenced.
As the spinoff of Love Island USA enters its second season, fans are in for a treat with some familiar faces, including Mert Okatan, the Love Island Netherlands & Belgium winner, who is bringing his competitive spirit back to the franchise to take home the crown as king of the games.
Okatan first appeared on Love Island Netherlands & Belgium’s second season in 2020, which ran from Aug. 31 to Oct. 11, 2020. He and his partner, Joan Pronk, ultimately won the show; however, they parted ways in 2021.
His Love Island reign didn’t end there. Okatan returned to the same franchise during Season 3, where he placed third.
“I’m a very competitive person. I hate to lose,” Okatan says in a video introduction shared on the Love Island USA official X account. “I’m a born winner, you know. I hate to lose, so I’m here to not lose, to win the game.”
As a footballer, Okatan notes that his speed is an “8 out of 10,” and that his strength is 10 out of 10, so he has no doubts about how he’ll show up on the physical front. He is also unashamed to share hopes of meeting a potential mate along the way, sharing his affinity for American women.
“I love American women,” he quips in the introduction video. “If I love a girl, you don’t need language, you know. Look each other in the eyes and then it just happens, you know what I mean?”
Along with Okatan, other global alums of Love Island are in the second installment of Love Island Games, including USA Season 6’s Andrea Carmona, UK Season 10’s Tyrique Hyde, USA Season 7’s Andreina Santos, USA Season 6’s Kendall Washington and a host of others.
Love Island Games Season 2 airs new episodes on Peacock, Thursday through Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET.
