Vocalist Alfa Anderson, of the iconic band Chic, has died at age 78. Anderson, who was the lead singer for the band, sang on his tracks such as “Good Times” and “Le Freak.”  The singer’s bandmate Nile Rodgers paid tribute to Anderson with a heartfelt post on Instagram.

“Thank you for everything,” Rodgers wrote on Tuesday.

Rodgers shared a series of photos he took with Anderson and the band. The post also featured Anderson’s solo track “At Last I Am Free,” from the 1978 album C’est Chic.

“RIP Alfa Anderson. CHIC organization,” Rodgers wrote on the tribute. “Forever Loved.”

Early in her career, Anderson was featured as a vocalist in Cannonball Adderley’s 1976 album Big Man. She was also featured in the The Wiz soundtrack, produced by Quincy Jones, in 1978, per Rolling Stone.

Anderson joined Chic in 1977 after the legendary musician Luther Vandross invited her to take part in one of the group’s vocal sessions. Drummer Tony Thompson and lead vocalist Norma Jean Wright were also part of the early members assembled by Rodgers and Bernard Edwards.

Anderson later became co-lead vocalist with Luci Martin when Wright left the group. When the group released its second studio album, Anderson performed two solo tracks on the project: “At Last I Am Free” and “I Want Your Love.” In 1979, the group released its Risque album, featuring Anderson’s “Good Times.”

Outside of her work with Chic, Anderson collaborated with artists such as Diana Ross, Mick Jagger, Teddy Pendergrass and many more.

Anderson released her debut solo album, Music From My Heart, in 2017.

Chic reunited  in 2015 and released their single “I’ll Be There.”
