Puerto Rican boxer Paul Bamba, who won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight world title when he defeated Mexico’s Rogelio Medina on Dec. 21, has died at age 35. Bamba’s manager, Ne-Yo, announced the news in a joint statement with the boxer’s family on Instagram.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives,” Bamba’s loved ones stated. “He was a fierce yet confident competitor with an unrelenting ambition to achieve greatness.”

Newly released bodycam footage from the office of New York’s attorney general shows correctional officers at the Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County repeatedly brutally kicking and punching 43-year-old Robert Brooks, who died in the hospital shortly after the beating.
“I do not take lightly the release of this video, especially in the middle of the holiday season,” state Attorney General Letitia James said at a virtual news conference, per NBC News. “These videos are shocking and disturbing.”

In response to Donald Trump‘s threats of mass deportations, Mexico is making a new app that’s supposed to protect migrants from U.S. immigration officials. Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs, told CNN that the Alert Button has already been rolled for testing and it “appears to be working very well.”
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce had a post-holiday night out in New York City with Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley on Friday night (Dec. 27), based on photos that circulated Saturday.

Since wrapping her tour, she’s also been seen visiting patients at Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital; though she didn’t publicize her visit, patients and their families posted about her generosity online. Swift additionally made a substantial donation to Kansas City children’s non-profit Operation Breakthrough, according to the organization.
Legendary sportscaster Greg Gumbel has died at age 78. Gumbel’s family announced the news on Friday, saying he “passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer.”
“Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace, and positivity,” Gumbel’s wife Marcy and daughter Michelle wrote in a statement, per CBS News. “He leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcast industry; and his iconic voice will never be forgotten.
Melinda Irizarry, a pregnant woman in Florida, is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed 14 times allegedly by a pizza delivery driver. According to People, Irizarry was stabbed at a motel in Kissimmee, Florida, on Sunday after the delivery woman, Brianna Alvelo, allegedly became angry about the amount of tip she received. Police said Alvelo returned with another man after delivering the pizza, and the pair allegedly forced their way into the room.
At least four shops were burned down on Friday when fire broke out at a popular holiday market in New York City’s Bryant Park. The fire broke out at Bryant Park Winter Village around 9 a.m. and burned multiple shops, but nobody was injured as firefighters quickly put out the flames, the Associated Press reported. The fire also damaged the roof of a nearby ice skating rink.
