The U.S. is seeing the highest number of norovirus cases reported in more than 10 years.
Norovirus, also known as the stomach flu (or more colloquially the “stomach bug”), is the No. 1 cause of foodborne illness in the country, causing about 58 percent of infections annually, per the National Library of Medicine. About 2,500 norovirus cases are reported every year in the U.S., Newsweek reported.
Puerto Rican boxer Paul Bamba, who won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight world title when he defeated Mexico’s Rogelio Medina on Dec. 21, has died at age 35. Bamba’s manager, Ne-Yo, announced the news in a joint statement with the boxer’s family on Instagram.

Newly released bodycam footage from the office of New York’s attorney general shows correctional officers at the Marcy Correctional Facility in Oneida County repeatedly brutally kicking and punching 43-year-old Robert Brooks, who died in the hospital shortly after the beating.
“I do not take lightly the release of this video, especially in the middle of the holiday season,” state Attorney General Letitia James said at a virtual news conference, per NBC News. “These videos are shocking and disturbing.”

Legendary sportscaster Greg Gumbel has died at age 78. Gumbel’s family announced the news on Friday, saying he “passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer.”

Melinda Irizarry, a pregnant woman in Florida, is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed 14 times allegedly by a pizza delivery driver. According to People, Irizarry was stabbed at a motel in Kissimmee, Florida, on Sunday after the delivery woman, Brianna Alvelo, allegedly became angry about the amount of tip she received. Police said Alvelo returned with another man after delivering the pizza, and the pair allegedly forced their way into the room.
At least four shops were burned down on Friday when fire broke out at a popular holiday market in New York City’s Bryant Park. The fire broke out at Bryant Park Winter Village around 9 a.m. and burned multiple shops, but nobody was injured as firefighters quickly put out the flames, the Associated Press reported. The fire also damaged the roof of a nearby ice skating rink.
