Saturday Night Live alum Sasheer Zamata has come out as a lesbian. Zamata, who left SNL in 2017, sat down for an interview with Them in which she described herself as “one of those late-in-life lesbians.”
“I’m out in my life and I do keep my personal life kind of private, but I also don’t necessarily want my identity to be private,” Zamata told Them. “I guess I’m one of those late-in-life lesbians. I just feel very comfortable and confident in my life.”
Former president Barack Obama has several known siblings, though not many have been as vocal about him and his career as his brother, Malik Obama. The Kenyan-American, who splits his time between the U.S. and his native country, made headlines in early September after expressing his support for Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate Barack has long criticized.

Just one day before this public endorsement, Malik tweeted an image of him and Barack years ago, though the caption is far from a touching tribute to their upbringing. Instead, Malik took the opportunity to take a dig at his estranged sibling.
“Fake a** when we were brothers,” Malik harshly captioned the image.
Many are eager to learn about the man who apparently has personal and political issues with Barack. Here’s what we know about the controversial figure.
Malik Obama Has Had Several Careers
Malik Obama and Barack Obama share the same father, Barack Hussein Obama Sr., a Kenyan governmental economist who passed away in 1982. While working in the U.S. for some time, Malik worked as an accountant for several companies, such as Fannie Mae and the American Red Cross. Eventually, he followed in his brother and father’s footsteps, seeking a political career by running for governor of Siaya, Kenya, in 2013. Unfortunately, he did not win his campaign.
In 2012, he penned his first book, “Barack Obama Sr.: The Rise and Life of a True African Scholar,” an autobiography of their father. His second book arrived in 2020 and was titled, “Malik Obama BIG BAD BROTHER FROM KENYA.” This time, Malik chose to detail his life story. While neither book appears to have been overly successful, the latter has more Amazon reviews.
Malik Has Been Critical of Barack
The Obama brothers were once close, even participating in one another’s weddings. However, things seemingly soured throughout the years. During an August 2020 interview with The New York Post, Malik claimed Barack changed after becoming president.
“He got rich and became a snob,” Malik told the outlet. “What I saw was he was the kind of person that wants people to worship him. He needs to be worshiped and I don’t do that. I am his older brother, so I don’t do that.”
During this interview, Malik revealed that things initially soured when Barack refused to support a foundation named after their father. The author claims that Barack requested that Malik shutter the organization. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the pair have mended their relationship, especially with Malik using his social media platforms to continuously call out Barack, who has refrained from publicly speaking about their issues.
The 2024 Election Is Not Malik’s First Time Supporting Donald Trump
While Malik Obama expressing support for Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election may shock some, the two have seemingly had an allegiance for years. During Trump’s 2016 bid for the White House, he invited Malik to be his guest during the debate against Hillary Clinton. Malik was a staunch critic of Clinton, throwing his support behind the real estate mogul turned politician. A month ahead of the debate, Malik shared with BBC that it was “sort of disappointing” that their family members were not present during the Democratic National Convention.

Tragedy has struck the Olympic community after Ugandan long-distance runner Rebecca Cheptegei was viciously attacked by her former lover, Dickson Ndiema. Several outlets have confirmed that on Monday, the athlete was doused in gasoline and set on fire by Ndiema. It appears the shocking act followed an argument over land recently acquired by Cheptegei. Though she was living in northwestern Kenya, Cheptegei intended to build a home on her land and for reasons unknown, this became a point of contention for the couple.
Cheptegei was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret City, Kenya, with burns over nearly 80 percent of her body, ABC News confirmed. Sadly, the Uganda Athletics Federation released a statement on Thursday announcing that Cheptegei had succumbed to her injuries. She competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, competing in the women’s marathon, finishing in 44th place with a season’s best time of 2:32:14. While her accolades are well-documented, not much was known about Dickson Ndiema. However, here is what has been gathered about the man reportedly responsible for this tragic loss in the runner community.
Who is Dickson Ndiema?
Little is known about Dickson Ndiema’s personal life outside his association with Cheptegei. Kenyan newspaper The Star reported that he is not the father of the runner’s two daughters, and that the two had been separated for a while prior to the attack. A semi-private Facebook profile is currently the only source of personal information available about Ndiema.
Ndiema Reportedly Attacked One of Cheptegei’s Daughters
Cheptegei was attacked while her two daughters, aged 11 and nine were present. Ndiema reportedly snuck into Cheptegei’s home while she and her children were at church. During the attack, one of them rushed to her aid but was reportedly assaulted by Ndiema.
“He kicked me while I tried to run to the rescue of my mother,” she told The Standard. “I immediately cried out for help, attracting a neighbor who tried to extinguish the flames with water, but it was not possible.”
Dickson Ndiema Was Treated For Burns After The Attack
After Ndiema assaulted Cheptegei, he was also hospitalized for injuries he sustained. According to The U.S. Sun, Cheptegei was burned over 30 percent of his body. He is reportedly in the intensive care unit recovering from his injuries. No further information about his current status has been made publicly available.
Rich Homie Quan has died at just 34 years old on Sept. 5. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but it’s believed that he died from a drug overdose in his Atlanta home.
His family is “shattered and heartbroken by his sudden death” and “desperately searching for answers,” according to TMZ.
Ugandan Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei has died following a gasoline attack and being set on fire at the hands of a former boyfriend in western Kenya.
As Blavity previously reported, the Sunday attack left burns on over 75% of Cheptegei’s body, requiring her to be transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, a nearby bigger city, for specialized treatment.
According to the BBC per local authorities, Cheptegei was returning home from church with her two daughters when the attack occurred. Her father, Joseph Cheptegei, called his daughter “very supportive,” while fellow Uganda athlete James Kirwa told the outlet about her generosity, sharing she would finance other local runners’ careers. Police say an investigation is underway.
Cheptegi, though from Uganda, built a home in Trans-Nzoia County close to Kenya’s athletic training centers.
Unfortunately, attacks against women are all too common in the East African nation. A 2022 study found at least 34% of Kenyan women had experienced physical violence since the age of 15. The number is likely much higher after the nation’s proposed finance bill and its inspired political upheaval.
“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent need to combat gender-based violence, which has increasingly affected even elite sports,” Kipchumba Murkomen, Kenya’s sports minister, said, per the BBC.
While outside of the hospital, Cheptegei’s father asked the Kenyan government to seek justice on behalf of his daughter.
“We have lost our breadwinner,” he said, adding that he’s worried about how her two children, 12 and 13, will “proceed with their education.”
Donald Rukare, head of Uganda’s Olympic committee, has also addressed the incident and the 33-year-old’s passing on X, formerly Twitter.
“This was a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete. Her legacy will continue to endure,” he wrote.

Cheptegei finished 44th in the marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her death comes two years after two similar incidents: the murders of fellow East African athletes Agnes Tirop in 2021 and Damaris Mutua in 2022, the BBC mentioned.
