Beauty company Mielle Organics has tapped Angel Reese to be its newest ambassador. The NCAA athlete will be the face of the hair care brand and will curate a limited-edition bundle of her favorite products, which will be available for purchase this summer.
Tina Turner, the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” died on Wednesday at 83. A spokesperson confirmed the news, saying Turner died peacefully at her home in Switzerland.
“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” the spokesperson said in a statement according to Sky News.
Turner’s representatives also released a Facebook statement expressing their sorrow.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the statement read. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
A Miami-Dade County elementary school has removed Amanda Gorman’s presidential inauguration poem “The Hill We Climb” from its bookshelves. The school moved the poem to the middle school section after a parent objected to it, reported the Miami Herald.
The mother of a 15-year-old boy shot and killed by a former police officer says her son was reportedly at the man’s home with his daughter.
The teen’s mother, Jacqueline Rash, identified the victim as Cornelius McGee. She said former police officer Andrew Bankhead shot and killed her son at Bankhead’s house in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on Monday, News Channel 3 reported.
A group of legislators led by Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., has introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives in support of reparations. The resolution, which includes a $14 trillion price tag, is the latest in growing efforts across the country to implement reparations programs for Black Americans as a way to redress the enduring legacy of slavery and racism in this country.

Daniel Cameron, the Kentucky attorney general who declined to prosecute the cops who killed Breonna Taylor and who has since become a rising star in the Republican Party, is officially kicking off his general campaign for governor of Kentucky.
Cameron officially won the Republican primary last week and will now try to defeat Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear. Cameron’s race comes as one of several in which prominent Black Republicans seek higher office.
A TikTok video showing Beyoncé‘s mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, being lifted from the floor seats by paramedics at the Renaissance World Tour is going viral. Knowles-Larson attended the May 14 stop of her daughter’s highly anticipated tour supporting her latest studio effort, Renaissance. The 69-year-old grandmother of four was seated in the “Club Renaissance” section, where fans have paid top dollar to get the closest access to Queen Bey herself.
TikTok user Carla Sciuto, captured the footage and shared a video, which shows paramedics possibly questioning if she wanted to go to a less rowdy area. “I still don’t understand how she ended up in the floor with us,” Sciuto said.
With the help of The BeyHive, Knowles-Lawson was able to safely get over the barricade. Mama Tina even mouthed “I’m sorry” to the fans for the commotion before shaking hands with one as she walked away. The clip has since racked up nearly 10 million views and over 800,000 likes so far.
The prom reveal videos have gone viral all over social media, and everyone has had their say, including Real Housewife of Potomac cast member Candiace Dillard Bassett. She’s facing backlash for commenting on a popular clip of two Philadelphia teens who went all out to celebrate their prom night.
Social media, specifically Black Twitter, is dragging Bassett for calling the elaborate celebration tacky. However, the “Deep Space” singer is not budging on her opinion.
On Saturday, Bassett shared a clip of Pennsylvania teens @1.jmariee and @younglilzah going to prom. The extravagant festivities featured the two teens impeccably dressed, surrounded by friends and family as they stepped out into a storm of confetti, a DJ and a massive balloon wall. There was even a custom billboard that read, “Zahir’s Edition.”
Most people thought the lavish send-off was a flex and possibly a display of pride for the families of the teens. Dillard, however, was not impressed. She tweeted, “I pray this tacky overdone prom trend is over by the time mine are ready,” wrote the housewife. “We not doing this. They look nice though.”
Spelman College is making history for the fourth time as its 2023 graduating class will have four valedictorians. Spelman posted written bios for each grad describing their unique upbringings and post-grad plans. It was written in the stars for Spelman’s four valedictorians, Maya Blasingame, Amaia Calhoun, Sydney DuPree and Chandler Nutall, who succeeded in everything they did while on campus.
