WeightWatchers, the popular weight-loss program, announced Tuesday that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to eliminate $1.15 billion in debt and position the company for “long-term growth and success” to “better serve its millions of members” worldwide.
Rapper Jamell “YNW Melly” Demons’ legal team submitted a motion for him to be released on bond ahead of his second retrial in a double homicide case.
According to NBC Miami, the Florida native was arrested six years ago as the suspect in the murder cases for Christopher Thomas Jr and Anthony Williams, who were fatally shot in October 2018. Both men were part of the hip hop group, Young N***a World, aka Young New Wave, which included Demons and another man named Cortlen Henry. Despite his original court hearing resulting in a mistrial in July 2023, YNW Melly has remained behind bars.
YNW Melly’s Legal Team proposes strict monitoring to secure pre-trial release
On May 6, the 26-year-old’s lawyers asked federal Judge Martin Fein to release him from jail to wait at home until the second trial. They claimed that the Broward County Sheriff’s Office had revoked his privileges to talk to his family and one of his attorneys. To offer comfort if a bond was granted, the counsel proposed that the defendant be placed on house arrest at his family’s home and wear an ankle monitor. Additionally, they would arrange a round-the-clock private security detail to monitor him.
“They would be reporting if there was any infractions by Mr. Demons, they would be reporting directly to myself, to the legal team, the state attorney and to the court,” Raven Liberty, the lead defense attorney, told Fein. “So it would be basically [havhing] your own deputy, paid deputy, with him.”
Demons’ mother, Jamie Demons-King, expressed optimism about her son’s release.
“We are really hopeful today that he’s going to get a bond and be able to come home,” she told NBC Miami. “He’s been through a lot these last six years in jail, three years with no phone calls, no visitation. The only time I do see him is in the courtroom and we aren’t able to conversate with each other.”

A lawyer representing the William’s family spoke before the hearing, informing the judge that the family strongly opposes any release before the trial begins.
Prosecutors pushed back against granting bond, pointing to the severity of the capital murder charges and an ongoing witness tampering case. They also highlighted ballistic evidence and cell phone data that allegedly place Demons at the scene of the crime.
“It’s already been established that he presents a danger to the community, but not only that, he intended to tamper with witnesses while in custody,” Asst. State Attorney Justin Griffiths explained.
Demons’ attorneys are banking on the 2023 mistrial to influence the judge’s decision since jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. A ruling on their bond request is expected within the next few days.
The retrial is set for Sept. 10. He possibly could be given the death penalty if found guilty.
Target CEO, Brian Cornell’s salary has declined nearly 90% in the last few years, especially amid the recent boycott due to its rollback on DEI initiatives. According to Black Enterprise, Target is losing so much money that executives’ wages have drastically reduced as a result. New data shared by the Minnesota Star Tribune detailed that Cornell’s new annual income was nearly $10 million in 2024, the lowest since 2016. In 2018, he earned nearly $18 million. Both amounts are significantly lower than Cornell’s highest salary payout of $17.5 million in 2020.
Target’s lagging results and DEI backlash is shrinking executive bonuses
Target didn’t meet its business goals two years ago and fell even further behind in 2024. The company typically gives its top executives bonus stock based on how well it performs over three years. However, from 2022 to 2024, Target missed the mark on key goals like sales, profits and making the most of its investments. Due to that, executives earn only about 62% of their potential bonus.
Cornell and his executive peers within the company may see further pay reductions as the company faces fallout from two major fronts: a controversial retreat from its DEI commitments and renewed economic pressure from Donald Trump’s growing tariffs.
Target’s DEI reversal sparks outrage while tariffs loom
The backlash was swift after Target announced in January 2025 that it would formally end its three-year DEI goals after Trump returned to office. Civil rights activists, Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jamal Bryant called for a national boycott, citing Target’s decision to stop sharing diversity data with organizations like the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. The move triggered a wave of criticism and consumer pushback, particularly from Black shoppers and others surprised and disappointed by the reversal.
In the following weeks, Target’s chain of stores saw a noticeable drop in traffic and sales. Cornell later met with Sharpton to address concerns in a “constructive and candid” manner, so the company attempts to regain trust. Dozens of restaurants are planning to offer free items and discounts to celebrate National Nurses Week. The American Nurses Enterprise, which includes the American Nurses Association, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Foundation, said in a statement that it’s important to “champion nurses, advance standards of excellence and inspire transformative change.”
“Whether you’re a nurse, a healthcare professional, a patient, or simply someone who appreciates the critical role nurses play in our lives and society, National Nurses Week is the perfect time to share your gratitude and celebrate nurses,” the organization wrote, per USA Today.
When is National Nurses Week?
National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6 to May 12.
“These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event,” the enterprise says on its website.
According to USA TODAY, President Ronald Reagan first recognized the special honor when he signed a proclamation to make May 6 “National Recognition Day for Nurses.”

After more than 20 years of helping users around the world connect to colleagues and loved ones, Skype has officially shut down.
According to NPR, the news is not a shock — Skype owner Microsoft has prioritized Microsoft Teams over the video-call and messaging app in recent years. But its closing still marks the end of an era as users mourn that iconic blue logo and ringtone.

Skype users urged to switch to Microsoft Teams
As competitors like Zoom, WhatsApp and Slack have dominated the telecommunications market, Skype’s user base has wained, dropping from almost 40 million users in 2020 to 36 million just three years later, NPR reported.
In February, Microsoft announced that Skype would make its final video call on May 5 and recommended users migrate to Microsoft Teams, which offers users similar services.
“Skype has been an integral part of shaping modern communications and supporting countless meaningful moments, and we are honored to have been part of the journey,” Jeff Teper, president of collaborative apps and platforms at Microsoft, wrote in a blog post.
Luckily, the switch should be an easy one for Skype fans. The app shared in a tweet that users can “automatically migrate” their chats and contacts directly to Microsoft Teams.

Users remember Skype as a platform that helped them stay connected
Though Skype’s popularity has shifted over the last few years, the app was still beloved by users who remember how it helped them stay connected to the people they love.
Weng and Owen Williams shared their love story with BBC News and discussed how Skype helped them find each other.
“Skype was a very important part of our relationship,” Weng, who used the app to stay close with her friends in Macau, China, while feeling homesick in Wales in 2012, told the outlet.
It later helped her stay connected to Owen while they were in a long-distance relationship.
“That was quite sweet,” she said. “Skype just kept us going.”
The couple eventually got engaged and are happily married.
Erica told BBC News anonymously that Skype played an unexpected role in her healing from her husband’s 2017 death.
“I was clearing out his files to decommission his work computer,” she told the outlet, explaining later that she “had the opportunity to review these messages we had exchanged and realized how they inadvertently documented a period of distress and heartache in our relationship.”
Erica shared that she “sent a posthumous message to his Skype address to which, I — or he — replied from his computer” which led to a conversation “over a period of weeks” where she would send him a message and reply using his account.
“In this exchange, we responded to each other’s messages and questions with all the apologies and regret that we needed to hear from each other,” Erica said.
She told he outlet that it helped her find the closure she was looking for.
“It helped me to move on. I believed it,” she told BBC News.

Longtime friends Mary J. Blige and Misa Hylton are at odds. Hylton recently filed a lawsuit in New York against Blige and her company, Beautiful Life Productions.
According to AllHipHop, Hylton is suing Blige for $5 million in damages for breach of contract, emotional distress and interference with business relationships. It all stems from their mutual pal and rapper Vado, who is Hylton’s client under her agency, M.I.S.A. Management. Hylton alleges that Vado engaged in shady business practices with Blige and that she attempted to poach Vado from her.

Hylton’s attorney, Nicholas Ramcharitar, gave an exclusive interview with The Breakfast Club, explaining how the situation turned into a legal matter.
“It’s very unfortunate that this had to go down like this because Misa tried every possible avenue in terms of trying to amicably to resolve this with Mary directly, with Mary’s camp, but unfortunately, and it’s unbeknownst to us why Mary J. Blige and why her camp cut off Misa Hylton,” Ramcharitar said in a recording shared by The Breakfast Club via Instagram.
He also clarified that Vado isn’t the reason why they’re no longer friends.
Allegations of Mary J Blige sabotaging Vado’s career
According to court documents, Vado entered into a management agreement with M.I.S.A. on July 25, 2023, entitling the agency to 20% of his earnings, AllHipHop reported. However, just months later, on October 1, 2023, Vado signed a recording deal with Beautiful Life Productions. Blige and Vado teamed up for 2023’s “Still Believe in Love.”
By July 2024, the lyricist had completed a full album. Still, Blige allegedly halted the rollout of Vado’s project and potential performances if he stayed with M.I.S.A. Management.
As a result, Vado is said to be struggling due to being unable to earn income or repay advances tied to his record deal. Hylton and M.I.S.A. Management are seeking an injunction to prevent Blige or her company from causing further disruption to her client’s career. Blige has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit.
Rite Aid is closing many locations across the country as it prepares to file for bankruptcy. CEO Matthew Schroeder notified employees in a letter, saying the company is forced to close after failing to receive the additional capital it needs from lenders to continue running the business. According to Bloomberg, the company will also cut jobs at its corporate offices.
Why is Rite Aid Filing for bankruptcy?
Rite Aid is struggling to survive while facing an increasing challenge from online stores, as well as debt and a declining cash flow. Schroeder, according to Bloomberg, added that “the dramatic downturn in the economy,” exacerbated by tariffs and increasing costs from suppliers, has forced the company to make job cuts. The CEO said in his letter that Rite Aid lenders can’t cover employment-related expenses if the company retains the entirety of its workforce.
Rite Aid first filed for Chapter 11 in 2023 and cut $2 billion in debt. The retail store, which closed 850 locations at that time and transferred control of the company to lenders, bounced back from bankruptcy in September. At that time, the company said it had been revamped with “significantly less debt and additional financial resources.” Still, Rite Aid faced more than $2 billion in debt while struggling with inflation and weaker demand.
How many Rite Aid locations will be closed?
179 locations are closing right now. While closing these locations, Rite Aid still operates 1,200 stores. However, the future of the business in its entirety still remains murky, WIBX reported.
And as Bloomberg noted in their report, Schroeder “told employees that all Rite Aid stores would either be closed or sold, according to people familiar with the situation. The company is working with several regional and national buyers who might be interested in parts of the company.”
What’s happening to Rite Aid and its competitors like Walgreens and CVS?
America’s second-largest pharmacy, Walgreens, is also facing financial troubles in the current economy. The pharmacy, according to WIBX, plans to cut 1,200 locations by 2028. Private equity firm Sycamore Partners recently purchased the chain for $23.7 billion. CVS is also planning to close many of its locations.
The Food and Drug Administration is recalling two tomato brands sold in April. The tomatoes, according to the FDA, may be infected with Salmonella.
One of the recalled products is the four-count Vine Ripe tomatoes brand produced by Ray & Mascari Inc. The product is sold at Gordon Food Service Stores in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin, WRAL reported.
Williams Farms Repack LLC is also recalling tomatoes sold in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia from April 23–28, 2025, the FDA said.
Per Today.com, both companies got the tomatoes from the same supplier, Hanshaw & Capling Farms, or H&C Farms, in Immokalee, Florida.
What are the symptoms of people who get salmonella after consuming the recalled tomatoes?
People who get sick after eating the two recalled products may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, the FDA announced. Salmonella can rarely cause serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. The infection may be more serious in children or older people.
The FDA has stated there haven’t been any illnesses reported from the recalled tomatoes so far. However, the agency urges consumers to throw the tomatoes out or return them to the store if they haven’t been opened yet.
How can consumers identify the recalled products?
The Vine-Ripe tomatoes are sold in a package of clamshell containers, per USA Today. The package shows a label of VINE RIPE TOMATOES Packed by Ray & Mascari Inc., Indianapolis, IN 46204, with a UPC number of 7 96553 20062.
Meanwhile, the Williams Farms Repack LLC recall affects nine different package sizes, per Today.com. The recalled packages include three Williams Farms Repack labels and H&C Farms labels. The Williams Farms Repack labels are marked as 4×5 two layer, lot code R4467; 60 count two layer, lot code R4467; and 3 count trays, lot code R4467. The H&C Farms labels are marked as 5×6 25 pound, lot code R4467, and 6×6 25 pound, lot codes R4467 and R4470. The remaining packages are labeled as Combo 25 pound, lot code R4467; 4×4 two layer, lot code R4467; 60ct 18-pound loose, lot codes R4467 and R4470; and XL 18-pound loose, lot code R4467.
