Brian McKnight is breaking his silence following the death of his estranged son Niko’s death. McKnight’s brother, Claude, publicly shared the sad news.

As Blavity reported, Niko, who was 32 years old, lost his battle against Stage 4 colon cancer. Claude uploaded a TikTok video in which he mentioned how it was unfortunate that the fractured relationship between McKnight and Niko didn’t get resolved before his death.

Brian McKnight slammed his brother for announcing his estranged son’s death

On June 3, McKnight posted an Instagram reel featuring scenic views of Hawaii, including a photo of Niko’s name written in the sand at a beach. A voiceover of the R&B singer explaining his strained relationship with Niko accompanied the video. 

“A big big thanks to Claude Mcknight’s tasteless and self aggrandizing announcement on TikTok, that frankly was not his to make, in my opinion, he inserted himself and used Niko’s death as an opportunity, instead of letting him pass with respect and dignity. It has instead turned into a circus, a mockery of a life now lost, making this tragedy into a reality show type drama,” he started off saying in the clip

McKnight alleged that he tried to assist Niko with his medical care: “While that was unfolding my family and I flew home to Maui and had a private memorial remembering him, and all the good times.”

“The last time he and I spoke, we offered him all the help we could provide, we had the number one oncologist on deck for him and a team of specialists on standby with private care in our home,” he explained. “He and his mother declined. The door of communication was open and remained open until his death.” 

The 56-year-old father of four added, “To the self proclaimed ‘mama bear’ may God have mercy on your soul for not allowing him to accept that help and not allowing him to use that line of communication.”

McKnight’s post comes as Page Six reported that he allegedly did not attempt to contact Niko before his death.

“There is great comfort in knowing God knows the TRUTH and the totality of the WHOLE story. I am truly thankful for the immense peace God has given me. I’ve left everything in HIS hands. I, have a clear conscience. The only judgement that matters is God’s,” he said. “My wife, our children and I are eternally thankful to Almighty God that the suffering has come to an end and grateful for all of your condolences.”

He concluded the post by expressing gratitude to those who had supported him during a challenging time: “Thanks to those of you have known The truth from the beginning and haven’t let untruths, half truths or slander, prejudice your opinion.”

Brian McKnight receives backlash from fans for his post

The comments section on McKnight’s post is disabled, but that’s not stopping people from speaking their minds on the situation.

“This wasn’t heartfelt at all! This wasn’t written by a father who just lost a son.🥹,” someone commented under The Shaderoom’s post about McKnight’s video.

“Turned into a circus?…Brian, YOU WERE THE RINGMASTER! 🎪🤹🏿,” another person wrote.

“I’ve never disliked somebody so much that I’ve never met,” a third person added.

James Powell a longtime resident and the pastor of Cedar Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama is accused of physically violating a local pedestrian at gunpoint and stealing from them.

Although community members are defending the preacher’s character, he was recently arrested for attacking and robbing a man, who wants to remain unidentified, on May 29, according to KMVT. Local officials leading the investigation say that the incident occurred on Mobile Street, a location known for its historical significance and cultural relevance due to its connection to the civil rights movement.

The man who was assaulted and robbed spoke to KMVT about what transpired the evening he was ambushed by Powell. He shared that it was his first time strolling down Mobile Street to stop by the post office when he and Powell allegedly bumped each other in passing. In reaction to the collision, the 75-year-old turned to him and said, “You was in my way, I’m walking down the sidewalk.” This led to an exchange of words between the two before the elder walked off. 

Moments later, Powell allegedly came back down the road in his truck, hopped out of it with a firearm, and struck the victim multiple times in head with a gun. He then came back down the road in his truck and hopped out of it with a firearm that he used to repeatedly hit the victim before he ran off with his bag. Sometime later, he returned to apologize for his actions.

The man was shocked to learn that he was pistol-whipped by a pastor

The victim mentioned that he was unaware of Powell’s prominence in the city due to his 30 years of ministry, which left him even more shocked to learn he was involved in an incident with a faith-based leader. 

“When I heard that, I was like, ‘Oh, wow!’ I don’t know what to say, oh wow!” he said.

Powell was charged with first-degree robbery and released on bail. He has yet to publicly address the incident.

An Indiana bar is under fire after a video circulated of an unarmed Black man allegedly getting jumped by white men. On May 30, a fight broke out between customers at Pike’s Pub just before midnight in Fort Wayne, according to WANE 15.

A bystander at the bar recorded the altercation on their phone and shared it on social media. In the viral video clip, a Black man is seen talking with a few white men before others get involved. Right before things escalated, one of the men involved can be heard telling the Black man, “Pay your f**cking tab! Pay your tab!” before a domino effect of white males began hitting and tackling the victim while allegedly hurling racial slurs.

Since being posted, it’s gone viral and garnered many opinions. One Facebook user, Donitha Ward, shared the video on her profile, captioning it, “Pikes Pub……yall all disgusting. I hate it here!! Fort Wayne IN.” 

Like Ward, people were outraged at the events that took place at the tavern.

“That’s them outlaws a lot of em are racist and that’s why their bars are in them areas,” one person commented.

“It took 4 of them. I saw that little one rounding up his buddies before confronting the guy that was jumped. So it took 4-5 guys to jump one guy. If he didn’t pay his tab shouldn’t the owner of the bar have made sure he did without violence. So bar patrons are the police now,” another person wrote.

“As soon as he saw the big @ss TRUMP sign, he should have known better! But it’s no excuse for what they did!!! Smdh,” a thid person said. 

The white men were wearing black leather vests with the word “Outlaw” on them, leading police to believe the men were in a recognized biker gang known as the Fort Wayne Chapter of The Outlaws Motorcycle Club. In 2013, the group was involved in criminal activity as they were connected to a federal case where an affiliate “engaged in extortion and the distribution of prescription drugs” on the club’s behalf.

On May 31, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department sent a car to sit in the parking lot. Additionally, the division published a brief press release online to address the situation and share their account of what happened upon arrival at the scene, sharing that the Black man who was attacked didn’t want to name the assailants, according to reports.

“At approximately 1106pm on Friday May 30, 2025, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Pikes Pub in reference to a reported disturbance,” the statement read. “The initial call was to have an intoxicated subject removed from the bar. Prior to officers arriving on the scene, a fight started inside the bar. The fight stopped before officers arrived.”

The message continued, “Officers located the victim of the fight and spoke with him. The victim of the fight did not want to provide information on individuals responsible for his injuries. The victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital in fair condition. Officers conducted a follow-up investigation this morning at the establishment. All information will be forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation.”

In response to the brawl, residents protested outside the bar across the street, according to the WANE 15 news team, who were on-site Saturday morning.

Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker joined hundreds online in responding to the post, stating, “I must say it was very disturbing to watch. I am seeking answers as I am sure many of you are too.”

She also shared that she’s “in communications with our team and will continue to gather information as it becomes available.”

Since the incident, Pike’s Pub has removed its Facebook and Instagram business profiles. They’ve also ceased operations at this time; it’s unknown how long they will remain closed.

Niko McKnight, the son of controversial singer Brian McKnight, has died from cancer.

The Grio reported that Brian McKnight’s brother, Claude, posted a TikTok video on May 29 confirming the news that Niko had passed away. Per Essence, it was later revealed that Niko was 32 years old and had Stage 4 colon cancer.

“Niko was one of those amazing kids who was quirky and curious and ridiculously talented, amazing singer and amazing guitar player, had a great eye as a photographer, and just one of those kids that, in my estimation, [was] somebody you always wanted to be around. And so it really sucks that he’s no longer with us.”

Even though Claude said he didn’t want to get into the drama between Niko and Brian, he scommented on the issue, saying, “In any situation, there’s always at least three sides to a story, there’s my side, your side and the truth is, a lot of times, somewhere in between.”

“So here’s the thing. I don’t know exactly what was going on there,” he said. “I know what I’ve seen, I know what I’ve heard from all parties involved and I try not to judge. I just try to be as loving to each person as I can be because apparently there’s so much hurt going on…and a lot of things didn’t get resolved.”

“I know that kid had a lot inside, a lot eating at him for a long, long time. I may have contributed to what happened with him,” he continued. “What I do know is he’s out of pain now, so I can rejoice in the fact that he no longer has to go through chemo and the radiation and everything else.”

Niko’s father Brian has become ostracized from his fans after publicly denouncing his children with his first wife, singer Julie McKnight. The Grio quotes Page Six, which writes that Brian referred to his children, Brian Jr., Niko, Brianna and Clyde, as “products of sin.” He even went as far as to say, “In order to life a life that you love, you have to get rid of the evil and the negativity–even if that evil and negativity is related [to you].” He has one child and several stepchildren with his second wife, Leilani Malia Mendoza. He has publicly claimed their child together and his stepchildren as his own in the midst of his feud with his other children with Julie.

Allen Media Group founder Byron Allen is selling his local TV stations. The company announced that it has hired investment bank Moelis & Company as it prepares to sell local channels in 21 markets that include ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates. Per the company, any profits generated from the sale will help AMG reduce its debt.

“Six years ago, Allen Media Group began the process of investing over one billion dollars to acquire big four network-affiliated television stations. We have received numerous inquiries and written offers for most of our television stations and now is the time to explore getting a return on this phenomenal investment,” Allen said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We are going to use this opportunity to take a serious look at the offers, and the sale proceeds will be used to significantly reduce our debt.”
