Dear White People star DeRon Horton is recovering after suffering a gunshot wound that shattered his arm. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 32-year-old shared details of the incident and hospital photos of his injuries on social media.
“I wanna give an honor to God for covering me and protecting me to make it out this situation and countless other ones. Everybody that checked on me n holla’d at me, especially my family n friends. I love y’all, thank you,” Horton wrote on Instagram. His post included pictures of himself in the hospital with a cast and sling, images of the gunshot wound, his arm covered in blood, and a long incision with stitches on his forearm.
Horton explained that the incident happened a few days before Christmas while he was in his car. His arm was shattered during the shooting, but he said he’s “blessed dawg to not be in a casket or paralyzed Lord Thank You.”
The actor reassured fans that he is “healing” and out of the hospital. He shared that his arm now contains a plate and screws. Horton also urged fans to “stay alert” and be grateful for life.
“The devil can’t stop sh*t when you walk with God,” he added.
Many, including former co-stars, wished Horton a speedy recovery in the comments, Entertainment Tonight reported.
“Glad you’re still with us, Tuff Stuff!!! Good thing you’re covered by the All mighty. Hoping you heal quickly & painlessly as possible. Stay blessed,” his The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey co-star Samuel L. Jackson commented.
“Dear God, thank you for protecting my special Deron,” Horton’s Dear White People co-star Logan Browning wrote.
